It was a hot day, but by game time the weather actually wasn't too bad. The Bruisers scored first, the Homers caught up, and we ended the game out of mercy. Nora (2B) was taken out in the second inning when Homer Daniel sent a vicious liner into her leg, leaving a goose-egg-sized lump complete with scraped-in stitch marks.

Homer outs came thusly: In the first inning PaulH(RF) caught a towering fly ball, then Jose(SS) made nice catches for the second and third outs. In the second inning, Gerardo(LF) made a beautiful catch, and I missed seeing the second and third outs because I was running to the car to get ice packs for Nora's leg, but the scorebook says "Gerardo" for the second out and "Jose(SS) to Jes[2B in place of Nora]" for the third out. In the third inning, Randy(CF) made an awesome running catch in mid-center field, then Gerardo(LF) made a great catch 'way 'way out in left, and the third out was a great throw from Jose(SS) to Ron(1B). In the fourth inning, Ron(1B) made an unassisted out picking up a nice grounder that came right to the base, Jose(SS) fielded a grounder and threw to Ron(1B) just ahead of the runner, and then did it again for the third out (but it wasn't so close that time). In the fifth, EricG(SS) sent a grounder over to Shane(1B) for the first out, Randy(CF) made another fabulous running catch, this time going clear off the field to the right, and then we got a mercy out. In the sixth inning, EricB(C) caught a foul popup, Randy(CF) made an exciting juggling catch, and then EricG(SS) tagged a runner who had no idea when to stop.

Offensively, we did alright, keeping them to just one home run. We didn't have any home runs of our own, but had a triple by EricG and a bunch of doubles. We could have used more batting practice (yes, and fielding practice) before the season started. RBIs were collected by Randy, Paul, Rob (2), EricB, Ron, Jose (2) and Gerardo (2).

Our next game is Tuesday, April 28 against the Crawdads on field HN (dirt). I already know we'll be missing ScottM. Everyone else should respond to the game reminder on Monday and let me know if you'll be there or not.
