It was a hard-fought game that could easily have gone on all night, if not for the call of ice cream. The lead went back and forth, and the Bruisers hung in with all they had (but we saved some to play the Homers next week). Our lifetime record with the Crawdads now stands at two wins, three losses, and one tie.

Defensively we did really well. Anders caught the final out in right field to end the first inning, we held the Crawdads to 3-up 3-down in the second inning with JohnK making the first two outs and KarenC making the third (2 hands in the right order!); Ron made some great catches, including sideways-running over-the shoulder catch in the third inning; we had a great 5-3 play in the fourth to get a batter hustling to first; after a couple of practice tries, Nancy and Marc finally completed a 1-3 out in the 5th inning; and Mary Beth made a double play in the 6th by catching a line drive then throwing to Marc at first to get the runner coming back. Offensively everyone with two or more at-bats got at least one hit, Andrew had the only home run of the game, and RBIs were knocked in by Andrew (2), Anders, Bobby Joe, Ron (2), Marc (3), Greg, Mary Beth, Garson, and Dave (3) (I'm pretty sure this is how they went; they didn't all get marked in). Nancy received the first official Bruise of the season, taking a line drive off her shin (photo on the web page after this weekend) at while pitching in the third inning.

Our next game is TUESDAY May 1 on field H2 against the Homers. We'll be the home team. You can still use Scott as a field landmark, but he'll be playing for the opposition. I know we'll be missing Nancy (scouting trip to Africa), Liza and Scott. Everyone else please be sure I know if you'll be coming or not.

See you next Tuesday!
Karen :)

Addendum: We did have one injury - Anders broke his left index finger while batting. so he'll be DL'd for a couple of weeks. Also, it should be noted that the Crawdads made the final out of the game on themselves, hitting their runner with the batted ball.
