Bruise rs 1999

April 27 vs. Gravity Fielders

Bruisers: Jenny, Scott, Bob, KarenC, BobbyJoe, KarenT, Mikael, JohnK, Jes, Ray Turner (Bruiser debut), Sally Storch-Bunkall (Bruiser debut), Anders, Mark, Renaud, Allison Johnson (Bruisers debut), JohnD, Brad, and Mike Fischer (Bruiser debut).

Recruiting credits go to Brad for MikeF (who was a very good sport, considering he'd been up since 4:00 a.m. and Brad shanghaied from the airport where Mike had just flown in from Canada and wouldn't take him home until after the game and dinner) and Mark for Ray, Sally and Allison (bonus credit for recruiting people with names we didn't already have in the lineup!). Welcome everybody!

Kids: Emily & Max, John, George & Henry (Sally's kids), Julia (Allison's daughter), Claire & Toto.

Baja Fresh partiers: Renaud, MikeF, JohnD, Anders, Jes, Brad, KarenT, Scott, Emily, Jenny, Max, KarenC, and JohnK.

Box Score: 1 2 3 4 5 Total

Bruisers 0 0 1 0 9 10

G.Fielders 4 3 3 1 x 11

Due to things like the late hour, cold weather and stupid sprinklers, the bottom of the fifth inning was ended early. The Gravity Fielders actually scored a run in that bottom half, but I'm not counting it here.

The call of the day was "It's my birthday, we have to win!" Or, to Garth the Gravity Fielder's manager "It's my birthday, you have to let us win!" Well, unfortunately that didn't happen, but after a really slow start, we came darned close!!! (Dang that Garth anyway -- he catches everything!!) :)

It was a mighty sad looking game in the beginning, but then, motivated by poor mathematics on the part of the G.Fielders manager who thought the mercy rule had taken effect and ended their third inning early, the Bruisers exploded with nine runs in the top of the fifth inning and almost batted through the whole lineup. We got a home run from Brad (despite MUCH heckling from the fans in the stand), a double from JohnK, and lots and lots of singles. RBIs were knocked in by Ray (3), Bob (2), KarenC, Mikael (2), and Brad (2). Unfortunately, your beloved manager missed seeing a lot of what went on in the field (concentrating too hard on figuring out the field positions, y'know!) but we did have a bunch of nice combo plays to get runners.

Our next game is THURSDAY, May 6 against the IR Sox on field H3 (the corner field next to the ball-eating sewer; not where we were tonight). Remember, the game starts at 5:30, so please plan to be there by 5:15 to warm up and stretch! So far, I know we'll be missing Andy, the Streiffert girls and Jes. Everybody else please be sure I know whether or not you'll be coming.

See ya!

Karen :)

(and thanks for all the birthday wishes!)
