Cold day... new opponent... not a bad game, all told, although it was a short game due to the whimper factor and the fact that several Dogs took many many many pitches. On the upside, at least we didn't send anyone to the hospital this time! The scouting report note of "quite beefy" was right -- a couple of the guys looked like they could be on steroids (are those allowed in C League?), when really they were just good examples of what dedicated working out could do for ya (hint, hint!). Hopefully by mid-season the Dogs' management will have learned C League rules about things like women in the batting order and pitch arc, and conveyed them to their team members.
As reported, they hit really hard and really far so in the first inning many balls got past our outfielders. Fortunately, we figured things out and did better catching them in later innings. Defensive highlights include a great "hey, I barely have to move!" catch by Linda (SF) in the third inning, and a great blooper-reel "wha-wha-whoa-got it!!" bobble catch by Bryan (LF) who was in the middle of tying his shoe when a fly ball came out to him. Best play of the day came from BobG (CF) for his awesome running, high speed backhanded catch in RIGHT field. Offensively, we had no home runs again (bating cages, batting cages, batting cages...). RBIs were knocked in by Nancy, Ron, Jes, and BobbyJoe.
Our next game is Thursday May 8 against the Homers on field H3 (the one in the corner). We are the home team again. So far, I know we'll be missing Amy, Mikael and ScottM (he'll be there, so you can use his aqua shirt as a landmark, but he'll be the enemy). Everyone else please call or email me with whether or not you'll be there (I can't rely MM replies as an accurate "yes" or "no").
See you next week!
Karen :)
