It's been a while since we played an actual seven-inning game! It was another chilly afternoon, but both teams had plenty of bodies by game time. Despite having combined with the Acquisition Allstars this year, the Paper Tigers were a woman short, so they voluntarily (and completely honestly througout the whole game, which we definitely appreciate) took their obligatory phantom out when required. This actually worked in our favor more than once during the game.

We did make some good plays tonight, despite the field being a little treacherous and damp (and a little un-square (sorry)). In the first inning KarenC(2B) caught a little blooper, EricB(LF) made a nice 2-handed catch, and Emmanuell(CF) made a really nice running catch in left-center. Ian made a good jumping catch in the second inning. Ron(1B) and Nancy(P) combined nicely to get a runner out at first (way to back him up!), Ron took the next one by himself to get that out, and the EricB(LF) made a nice snowcone 2-handed catch for the third out. In the fourth inning we ended up only having to make one actual out when we started with the phantom woman out and then the Tigers reached mercy. In the fifth, EricG(1B) made a very nice unassisted out, and then later the Tigers manager got himself tagged out having turned at first when he shouldn't have. That left us with only having to make one actual out (we started with both the mercy out and the phantom woman out), and fort! unately it only took one batter to get it. The seventh inning ended with a really great BobG(SS)-Ron(1B) play. PaulF(3B) gets the "Where'd it go?" award for faking himself into thinking he'd fielded the ball when he hadn't. We lost Randii in the third inning when he slipped on the wet grass and went down in spectacular fashion, narrowly missing a fly ball in right field.

Offensively our bats were more on the quiet side. We had home runs from EriCG and BobG, and triples from Ron and PaulF. We need to remember to not hack at the bad stuff, and don't hit to the pitcher. RBIs were earned by Ron, EricB, PaulF, EricG, and BobG (3).

Our next game is MONDAY May 8. I believe we're missing Douglas and Juan, and maybe Linda. We'll be the visiting team against the Eclectic Eccentrics on field H7 (ball-eating sewer).
