It was a chilly afternoon that saw the Bruisers and Crawdads field plenty of players for that afternoon's game. The Crawdads, however, came loaded for bear and managed to find most of the holes in our outfield with big line drives and fly balls. Ellie fell victim to the Crawdads' Ms. Meanie(1B) who appeared to actually chased her down to tag her. We were also victims to two iffy calls by the Crawdads first base coach in the second inning which led to three of their runs that inning.
Defensively, we did okay, despite the big gaps in our outfield. Rob(3B) made a nice toss to Shaunna(2B) for a force out in the second inning. In the fourth inning KarenC(P) made a good two-handed catch of a little infield blooper. In the fifth inning BobG(SS) made a great catch of a sinking liner for an out. In between all these, good outfield catches were made by Juan (at least twice) and RandyB. The major highlight would be the amazing first inning bam-bam BobG(SS)-Ron(1B) double play -- wow!.
Juan went 3-for-3 with two home runs from Juan (dude, the drought is over!). Earl would have had a home run as well, but we're giving him the "Run, Forrest, Run" award for standing at home plate and watching his wouuld-be home run turn into a triple (he said "I just wanted to give Eric his RBI!"). RBIs were earned by Juan (2), Randy, Rob, DaveS, Ron, Ann (3), Earl, and Eric. BobG was robbed of a hit in the sixth inning when his beautiful long fly ball was caught by Crawdad "That's My Boy". Ellie gets tonight's Sneaky Feet award for twinkle-toeing her way to second base while the fielders were distracted. KarenC gets the "negative Sneaky Feet" award (yes, someone called it that; I forget who) for not running out her hit in the fifth inning (I thought it went foul!).
Our next game is Tuesday May 10 against the Acquisition Allstars on field H9 (same as tonight). I only know we'll be missing Jessica -- everyone else please be sure to let me know if you're coming or not.
Have a great weekend!
