Bruisers vs. L.A. Radars, May 5, 2009
Bruisers: KarenC, Simon, Jose, Gerardo, Nancy, EricB, Rob, EricG/Earl, Nora, Ron, Liza, Shane, and KarenT. BobbyJoe was also present, but as a Radar this time.
Victorious diners at Barn Burner BBQ: Jeff, Liza, Nancy, EricB, Earl, KarenC and Ron. The wait for food was pretty long, but ScottM reminded me later about the walk-up option where you don't have to use the waitress. We should remember that next time.
Bruiser fans: none :(
Quotes heard 'round the field:
- I love it when a man comes running when I holler his name! - KarenC
- Fine! I finally get on base and my husband gets me out! - Nancy
- Alright, we're ready for B League now! - Rob
Lost and Found: a Rawlings "Derek Jeter" glove was left on the end of the bleachers. If it's yours, let me know. I'm writing your name in it!

It was a warm and beautiful afternoon, with plenty of lovely pollen floating in the air... And, it was a great day to get our first win of the season! The early half of the game went very quickly, until the aliens came and replaced all the Bruisers. Hopefully we alien Bruisers will stick around for the rest of the season. :) Just as a trivia point, the top of the sixth inning took just five minutes to complete.
Our defenses were pretty good today. In the first inning, Simon(3B) made a good throw to Ron(1B) to force a runner, Jose(CF) made a good catch for the second out, and EricG(SS) fielded a hard grounder and fired it to Ron(1B) to get the third out. In the second inning, Shane(1B) made an unassisted out, Simon(3B) caught a popup, and Nora(2B) made an unassisted out at second base. In the third inning, Simon(3B) caught a little pop fly, Jose(SS) caught a line drive, and Rob(RF) caught a fly ball. In the fourth inning, Gerardo(LF) fielded a blooper and threw it to Nora(2B) who tagged out the overeager runner, Ron(1B) made an unassisted out picking up a slow roller, and Jose(SS) fielded a soft grounder and fired it to Ron(1B) to beat the runner. In the fifth inning, Jose(SS) threw a grounder to Ron(1B), Earl(RF) made a nice catch, and Simon(3B) threw a grounder to Ron(1B). In the sixth inning (the five-minute half-inning) Ron(1B) made another unassisted out, Simon(3b) threw to Ron(1B), and then Shane(CF) made a rather dramatic catch of a fly ball to center. Ron and EricB share the Patient Fielders award for their encouragement of the Radar gal who persisted in dribbling her hits foul or having them bounce foul again and again and again.
Offensively, we were rather quiet in the early innings, but burst forth in dramatic fashion for the fifth and sixth innings. We got home runs by Jose and Ron (which put the Radars into mercy!), a triple by Simon, and tree doubles by Gerardo and Earl. RBIs were knocked in by KarenC, Jose (2), Nancy, EricB, Rob, Earl (2), Nora (2), Ron (3), and Shane (2). Painful Out of the day went to EricB who's line drive was caught by the pitcher.
Our next game is MONDAY May 11. We'll be the visiting team against the Titans on field HS (grass). If you haven't responded to the game reminder yet, please remember to do so ASAP.
Those of you who don't have Bruiser shirts yet should be in the process of getting them, please.
Have a great weekend!
Karen
