For the first time in the history of the Bruisers, we are over .500 during the season! After the top of the third inning, the Bruisers trailed by 13 runs. Scoffing in the face of the Grim Reaper of Softball, we buckled down to draw within striking distance, then hung on for the win. Tonight's game gives us a 1-1 lifetime record against the Running Dogs.
Defensive highlights include a great catch by Ron(3B) in foul territory and tagout by Nancy(2B) in the third inning. Kudos do need to go to the Dogs' third baseman for a very stylish rolling catch of a sharp hit by Andy, and also to the Dog's left fielder for his loooooonnnnngggg running catch of Steven's fly ball to right center. Bruiser management used as many pitchers as Jim Tracy in a close Dodgers game -- a different one every inning (Nancy, Ann, Jes (who put her money where her mouth was after giving Ann a lot of lip during her pitching appearance) and Fabian). Fortunately, unlike in the MLB, in C League you're allowed to bring back your starting pitcher, although in this case we didn't need to since the game ended after just four innings (a record?).
Offensively, we did really well, esp. in the third and fourth innings. We batted nearly through the whole line up in the third inning, and all the way through in the fourth, and were robbed on at least four occasions. Home runs were knocked in by Steven and BobG (2). RBIs were earned by Jes, Ron, Ann (4), Steven (4), Doug, Eric, KarenT, Bob (3), and Pat (3).
Our next game is next Tuesday, May 11 against the TOADs on field H7 (the ball-eating sewer field). It could be a tough game, but we'll aim to continue our winning streak! So far I know we'll be minus Amy, Shaunna, Leo, Marc, and Jes. Everyone else please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
Have a great weekend!
Karen :)
