The entire home plate area was a wet and soggy bog, and the weather was cold and gloomy -- but not cold enough to stave off our first major meltdown of the season, unfortunately. Still, it was a fun game, and we got to see the Turkeys' two new (and very cute) babies. The Bruisers are happy to welcome our newest Bruiser, Nora Kelly, who made a great showing for her first game. KarenC was happy that, while she wasn't completely elegant at shortstop, she didn't completely suck there either (but really, there are safer places to put her!).

Defensively, things went pretty well, except in the third inning. In the first inning Ian(3B) made a nice catch of a little fly ball, then EricG(LF) caught the next two flies, the second while running. In the second, Nora(SS) successfully fielded a wet grounder and got it to Ron(1B), then EricB(CF) made a great catch, and then Nora(SS) combined with Jes(2B) for the third out. In the third inning between runs scored, Ann(SF) made a nice catch, we hit mercy, and then Ian(3B) made a great running catch of a foul ball to stop the bleeding. In the fourth, we started with one out, then KarenC(SS) made a "baton handoff" pass to Jes(2B) who almost made the double play, and then KarenC(SS) made an actual throw to Jes(2B) who held on to it despite the runner's desperate "drop it, drop it" plea for the third out. In the fifth inning, we started in mercy again, then Nora(SS) got balls to Ron(1B) and then Jes(2B) to end the game. Y'know, depending on who showed up to a game, the Bruisers could actually have an all-girls infield!

Offensively, our bats were a bit on the cold side, too, except for EricG's huge fly ball into the trees. Impressive! We had no home runs or triples. Nora's first at-bat as a Bruiser eluded the Turkeys and also gave her her first RBI. RBIs were earned by EricG, Ian, ScottE, Nora, and Jes. Randii was robbed of a hit when Turkey 3B Bill made a great catch of his line drive.

Our next game is on Monday, May 12. We'll be the home team against Double Mercy (I forget which team they were last year, but they're a very hard-playing team) on HS (the grassy bog). I know Nancy will be on travel - everyone else please be sure I know if you're coming or not.

Have a great weekend!

Karen :)
