For a while, it looked like we would have no opponents, but then the AA team bus showed up around 5:20 with most of their team. Tonight showcased a battle between a bunch of (mostly) 20-somethings who (mostly) hit big against a bunch of (mostly not) 20-somethings who (unfortunately, tonight didn't) hit big. We did pretty well in our own right, though, and did manage to end the game out of mercy (and that's always a good thing!). On a scale of 1-10, AA pitching gets a 4.

We had some really good defense, starting with Ron(1B) catching a rocket to end the AA first inning. The second inning was highlighted by a Nancy(P)-Ron(1B)-EricB(C) double play, followed by a good (altho' controversial) tag by EricB(C) to get the runner who appeared to trip and roll past home plate and then scrambled back to get his pinky on it too late. We're not going to talk about our defense in the third inning. Or the fourth inning (but that's because there were no notes). Ron(1B) made a great play in the fifth inning, catching a hard grounder and racing the runner to first base, causing Rob to comment "He's getting younger" (or something like that). Two of the sixth inning outs of the AAs were made on a groovy double play when BobG(SS) snared a line drive, stepped on second, then fired it to Ron(1B) who was able to catch it as it reappeared from behind the runner.

Hit-wise we had no home runs, but we did get a triple from Mandell, and more doubles than we've probably had in any previous game. Almost everyone got at least one hit; KarenC was 3-for-3, and BobG was 2-for-2. RBIs were collected by KarenC, EricB (4), Ann, BobG (2), EricG, DaveR, and Mandell. EricG demonstrated his Mexican Hat Dance moves while trying to sneaky-feet himself to third base in the third inning, Douglas made the AA gal in short field very happy in the fourth inning, and Bob found the time to flirt a slow dance out of the second basewoman in the fifth. Girly Girl Ann gets the "Why are you whining about that?" award for her complaints about breaking two nails during the game. Sigh.

Our next game is Wednesday May 17 against the L.A. Radars on field H9 (fountain). We're home team again. I believe we'll be missing Douglas and Fabian. Everyone else please be sure I know if you're coming or not.

NOTE: New Bruiser Mandell told us that he can be seen on a currently-running reality TV show called "Popularity Contest" which is on CMT (Country Music TV), a cable station. New episodes show on Saturday afternoons at 2:00, but repeats are shown throughout the week. You can read more about the show at: http://www.cmt.com/shows/dyn/popularity_contest/series.jhtml. Go check it out!

Have a great week!

Karen :)
