Bruisers: KarenC, ScottM, EricB, Ron, Ann, ScottE, BobbyJoe, Jes, Rich, Tony, and Liza. Thanks Tony and Rich for helping us out! And thanks, ScottE, for letting us put you at shortstop. I will be glad when summer comes and we can field a full team all by ourselves.
Bruiser fans: none :(
Diners at the soon-to-be-late Crown City where we were treated to Genevieve, a waitress who provided unexpected entertainment (was that gal on too much Red Bull or what??), causing us to rethink the whole "win or lose, we'll go to Crown City until we can't go there any more" plan: EricB, Jes, Ron, Liza, Jeff Boyer, ScottE, Rich, Scott M, and KarenC.
Quotes from the mud pit:
"You have mud all over your back!"
"Eww!"
"We'll call that 'Dancing Through the Mud'"
"Eww!"

The weather was cold and wet, the sun was hidden behind a thick layer of clouds, and the bog was boggier and grosser than ever, creating some interesting run-off styles when people crossed home plate. Unfortunately, the DMs crossed it more times than we did. Despite the loss, we were happy that Double Mercy was unable to achieve double mercy at any point during the game, and we ended the game out of mercy completely.
Defensively, we spent a lot of time in the field, but we had some good moves (as long as the ball didn't end up in the mud). In the first inning Jes(2B) fielded a grounder and got it to Ron(1B), then ScottM(RF) caught a fly ball, and Rich(3B) made a nice foul ball catch. In the second inning, KarenC(P) got a dribbler to Ron(1B), then we hit mercy, and then Rich(3B) fielded a sharp grounder and got it to Jes(2B). In the third inning, Tony(CF) earned the "Yikes!" award for appearing out of the blue on the infield, grabbing the ground ball and rocketing it past our SS and 2B and over the ducking DM runner on 2B to Ron(1B) to beat the runner. The second out was mercy again, and then Rich(3B) made a nice running catch to end the inning. In the fourth inning, Jes(2B) fielded a ball for Ron(1B), then Ron(1B) caught a popup while at the same time giving the runner on first a good growl to keep him there, and then Tony(CF) made a great outfield catch for the third out. EricB gets the "Dude! Pay Attention!" ticket for being distracted at LF saying hi to Gerardo (who was playing his own game on the other field!) and fielding a hardball for the peewees who were playing in our foul territory rather than paying attention to the fly ball coming at him.
Offensively, our bats were a bit cold. We had one home run by Tony (we need to get working on home runs of our own!), and a tree double by Rich. KarenC and EricB had non-tree doubles (Karen's was a beaut down the left field line!) (I can say that, I'm writing this thing!
Our next game is Monday May 19. We'll be the visiting team against the L.A. Radars on field HN (dirt). I know for sure we'll be missing ScottM and the Wessen men. Everyone else should please respond to the game reminder on Friday.
Have a great weekend!
Karen :)
