The first 2.5 innings were Ugly
as the Homers scored 21 runs, but in the third inning the Bruisers got
their act together and proceeded to put the fear of losing into the Homers.
The secret: low line drives through the left side of the infield and little
bloop hits right over the infielders (we'll need to remember that for next
year). They counted six home runs, but observers report that only one was
really legitimate (Scott's, in the fifth inning; his first of the season
for either team). The rest were legged in on fielding errors and, frankly,
luck (i.e. that base-running tactic I described in the tip
sheet).
All things considered, we did pretty respectably
tonight. We made some good plays -- including outfield catches by Anders
and BobbyJoe, and especially JohnD's catch of a Richard Chen
wannabe
a-homerun-hit -- some good heads-up plays to get runners at first
base, and some really nice hits of our own. Jenny also impressed certain
Homers with her skill at second base (who are always on the lookout for
women, but don't worry, there will be no trade negotiations). By the time
all was said and done, almost every Bruiser got at least one hit, including
a 3-run homer by JohnK. Runs were batted in by KarenC, JohnK (3), Kent
(2), Kathy, Anders, Jenny (2), Renaud (2), MikeF (2), Maren, and JohnD
(2).
Things to work on for future games (don't worry, I won't
mention any names!): running backwards under fly balls, throwing toward the
_infield_, and not making sliding catches in the outfield.
:)
NEXT GAME: Next Wednesday May 19 on field H3 against Voodoo
TOAD Fury. Sorry, no tip sheet for them but I'll try to think of something
(the thought of tip sheets really gets our opponent's attention!). I
already know we'll be missing Jes and Andrew, and maybe the Streifferts.
Everyone else please be sure I know whether or not you'll be coming. Game
time, what? 5:30 p.m.. But come early to stretch and warm
up.
See you next week!
Karen
