Bruisers vs. Killer Interplanetary Death Squad, May 15, 2002

Bruisers: KarenC, Andrew, Jes, Ron, Amy, Paul, Pat, John (on time for the second time in a row - gasp!), Anders, Nancy, Ron Baalke (on testosterone loan from the Homers, thanks!), Linda (2002 Bruisers debut), Leo, Shaunna, Mary Beth, KarenT and ScottE.

Bruiser fans: Jeremy (KarenC's friend visiting from Hawaii), Ann, Linda (Paul's), Tom Spilker, Jesse, Cassie, Ellie and Simon (who petitioned to rename the team the "Bruises").

Fuddrucker's redecorators: Ann, Ron, John, Nancy, Leo, ScottE, Tom, Anders, KarenT, Andrew and KarenC.

The KIDS had a lot of heart and a couple of good hitters, but what they reallyreally needed was a good pitching coach. Yikes. Had it not been for waiting a dozen or more pitches per batter, we probably could have gotten in all seven innings. But, despite having our batters fall asleep at the plate waiting for hittable pitches, the Bruisers prevailed in a big way, mercying the KIDS in the second inning, and never looking back.

Bruiser defense was great, with awesome first inning catches by Andrew and Paul (who even used two hands), and an all-girl play from Nancy(P) to Pat(1B) to make the third out. The second inning featured a very nice RonB(SS)-RonA(1B) out to get a runner. Just as impressive as Shaunna doing the splits to keep her toes on third base in the second inning when the KIDS third baseman knocked her over, was Ron Alley's All-Ron third inning -- the first two outs coming on a double-play where he caught a line drive at SS for one, then stepped on second for two, then caught a line drive from the next batter for three. Way to go Ron!! Offensively, we did well, with almost everyone getting on base at least once. Home runs were hit by Paul, Anders and RonB, and Leo legged out a triple. RBIs were knocked in by Amy, Paul (3), Anders (2), RonB, Leo (2), Shaunna, Mary Beth, and ScottE (2). Defensive honorable mention for the KIDS has to go to the guy at second base who magically snagge! d a hard line drive by Andrew to end the top of the fifth inning.

Our next game is next Wednesday May 22 against Voodoo TOAD Fury on field H2. We'll be the home team. We'll need our ringers!! :) Everyone please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
