Seriously. We need to do something about that ever-expanding pit of a batters box on HN. And yes, we won't use the extra home plate on the dirt field any more. Or the out-of-bounds cones by first and third. And maybe Charlie won't pop head veins during games any more. Seriously.
We didn't win this one, either, but we kinda expected it. We got a little excited at their mini meltdown during the fifth inning, but we were down too far to come all the way back. We made a pretty good effort, tho', and ended the game out of mercy.
In the first inning, Ron(1B) had a nice unassisted out, and was on the receiving end of throws from BobG(SS) and EarlM(3B) in the second inning. Rob(OF) kept things mysterious with running/juggling/bobbling catches in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th innings. In the fourth inning Bob had his first almost-DP (second was in the 5th), Ron had an unassisted out, and then EarlM ran down the cute blonde steaming into third and tagged her for the third out. In the sixth, EarlM(3B) made a good line drive catch with a throw to KarenC(2B) for a DP.
Our hitting still needs some practice as we had only singles and doubles (altho' I think BobG's double in the 5th was a tree double). RBIs were earned by KarenC, EricB, PaulH, BobG (3), EarlM (2) and EarlC. KarenC made Brent do a face plant while diving (and missing!) her single in the third. Nancy stole third on EarlM's long hit in the fifth inning and later scored. In the 5th inning, the TOAD catcher failed to watch the ball to see if it was fair or foul, and we ended up resetting the two runners on base who had come all the way home. And, at one point both managers sitting on the bench failed to keep track of exactly how many outs there were (sorry!), which resulted in backtracking two TOAD runs. Ann gets the Purple Heart award for the night -- she took a tumble coming out of the batters box in the fourth inning, scraping her knee and elbow, but wiped herself off and went back into the field, during which time she caught a ball and threw it while on her knees... ow. ! People, we're only supposed to get bruised, not bloody!
Our next game is Monday, May 21 against the Paper Tigers on field HN. We'll be the visiting team. Don't forget I need to know if you're coming or not, so please respond to tomorrow's game reminder! Hopefully we'll get more game schedule in the next few days so we can plan the rest of our summers.
Have a great weekends!
