Finally, we had a nice, warm day to play! The poor Radars were hit by "kids doing other stuff" syndrome which hurt the parent numbers today, but, for once, we had enough Bruisers that we were able to share and make a nice game of it. Slim (Procrastinators) had come to watch the Homers game on HS, and ScottM sent him over knowing that we needed men, but he became a Radar instead.

While we did start the game with a "win", we still had the presence of mind to remember that we did have to make actual outs so the game could progress. We had one or two "Keystone Cops" kind of moments, but did pretty well anyway. :) In the first inning, Ron(SS) was a busy guy, first with a nice backwards running catch, then getting a ball to Jes(2B) to force the runner, then throwing to Brad(1B). Getting the first out of the second inning took a long time, with the batter passing (or whiffing) on many (many) pitches. During this prolonged time period, EarlC(3B) was heard to say "It's gonna come right here", and sure enough, the batter finally hit a pitch, lining it *BAM!* into Earl's waiting glove. After that, EarlC(3B) fielded a grounder and stepped on third to force a runner, and then Brad(C) kept Radar-for-a-Day EricB out of the doghouse by catching Eric's foul pop-up. In the third, Also-A-Radar-For-A-Day Ann flew out to Jose(CF), the next batter flew out to Gerardo(LF), and then we hit mercy. Mercy, mercifully, didn't last long. In the fourth inning, Gerardo(LF) made a great double play by running in to catch a shallow fly ball, then throwing the ball to Jes(2B) before the runner could make it back to second base, and then Earl(3B) got a ball to Ron(1B) for the third out.

Offensively, we had no homers, but we did get triples from Ron and Brad, and tree doubles from Brad and EarlC. EricB got a "Bad Eric!" call for catching KarenC's little fly ball to center field in the fifth inning. Brad gets the Painful Persistence Award for one-legging out his triple on a pulled quad (it might have been a home run if he didn't have the pulled quad or if he had let Jose run for him from the bat). RBIs were earned by Amy, Jose, Gerardo, Brad (4), Nora, ScottE, and Jes (2)

Our next game is Wednesday May 28 and we'll be the home team against the Crawdads on field HN (dirt). I already know we'll be missing EarlC; everyone else please respond to the game reminder and let me know if you'll be there or not.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Karen :)
