Bruisers: KarenC, Randy, EricG, Jes, EricB, Ron, Nancy, Shane, ScottE, Nora, and Earl.
Bruiser fans: none (unless you count Jose and Gerardo who were playing with the Turkeys)
Bruiser diners at Corner Bakery: Ron, Earl, KarenC, Nancy, and EricB.
Lessons learned:
1) Always Do What Ron Tells You To Do -- KarenC ignored him and paid the price.
2) Never turn your back on the ball until play is finished

The Turkeys were really on their game tonight, while the Bruisers took it all in the knee, chest, ankle, chin, etc. It was just one of those nights where we couldn't get our offense going. Or maybe it was Turkey Mark who insisted on moving second base around (while was on it) because he thought the field (which had been measured with a measuring tape...) "didn't look right". Sigh. Yeah, he's new. We started the game short-handed, with only nine players (gang, please please get there by 5:30!!!), but had 11 by about mid-game.
Without an extra player to take notes, notes were very brief. Here's how the Turkey outs came... In the first inning, Ron(1B) caught a fly ball and went two steps to step on first base, then EricG(SS) scooped up a grounder and got it Ron (1B), then EricB(SS) caught a little fly ball. In the second inning, Ron(1B) made another unassisted out, then Nora (3B) caught a fly ball, and then EricG(RF) fielded a ball and threw it to Ron(1B) in time to beat the runner. In the third, Nora(3B) caught a little fly ball and threw it to Ron(1B) for a double play (woot!), and then Ron made yet another unassisted out (he was a busy guy, no?). In the fourth, Karen(P) fielded a grounder and threw it to Shane(1B), Nora(2B) caught another fly ball, then we hit mercy. In the fifth, we started with a mercy out, then Karen(2B) (listening to Ron this time) flipped a grounder to Ron(SS) to force that runner, and then Karen(2B) fielded a grounder and got it to Shane (1B) to get that runner (phew!). In the sixth, we started in double mercy, and Randy(3B) made a great running catch for the only real out of the inning.
Bruiser hitting was a little anemic, but despite the score, a good look at the scoresheet shows that everyone got at least one hit, including Earl who only had one at-bat. We just weren't able to string enough hits together in a row to score more runs. We had no home runs or triples or tree doubles. We had doubles from KarenC (who was tagged out trying to beat Turkey Matt's throw to third (this is when she was not paying attention to Ron, the third base coach)), Randy and EricG. RBIs were scored by EricG(2) and EricB (2). It was noted that the RBIs were knocked in by the same two guys, and the runs were scored by the same two guys (Randy and EricB). Yeah, it could have been prettier. Ah well. I'm sure we'll have at least one chance to redeem ourselves against the Turkeys later in the season.
Next game is Tuesday, May 26 (yes, the day after the holiday). I know we won't have Jose or Jes; everyone else please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
Have a great weekend!
Karen :)
