The cold weather was actually quite nice, as was the cloudiness. If the grass had been dry, that would have been even better, but we did fine with no slipping or sliding. It was a pleasant enough game (as usual, once the PTs had us in mercy), with the exception of their SS, Eric. While we didn't do an actual bat check, their manager was certain they didn't have any illegal bats this year, so I decided to trust him on that. Despite what anyone might think from the final score, we actually played all seven innings and were finished before 7:00 p.m. I think the real winner tonight was our post-game restaurant list, with the positive addition of Corner Bakery on Lake Ave.
First inning EarlC(LF) made a nice catch, then KarenC(2B) made an unassisted double play by snagging a line drive and then stepping on second base. In the second inning, BobG(SS) teamed with Ron(1B) for an out, EarlC(LF) caught a big fly ball, and then we hit mercy for the third. We basically stayed in mercy until the sixth inning, but they scored a couple more and we ended the game in mercy. The third inning was all BobG(SS), first getting a ground ball to Ron(1B) and then with a leaping catch. The fourth inning was all EarlC(LF) with two nice catches. In the fifth, PaulH(3B) caught a line drive, and then EarlC(CF) caught yet another fly ball. In the sixth inning, PaulH(C) caught a foul pop up, then Karen(P) fielded a short bouncer and threw it to Douglas(1B).
We finally got our first home run of the year, by EricB in the second inning. RBIs were earned by EricB, EarlC (2), BobG, Anders, and ScottE. ScottE gets the evening's Sneaky Feet award for making it over to second base while the catcher was busy avoiding Anders running into home. The Tough Guy award goes to EricG who came out and played even though he hurt himself over the weekend (completely non-Bruiser-related!).
Our next game is Tuesday May 29 (yes, the day after the holiday, so don't forget!). We'll be the home team against the Gravity Frawgs (again) on field HN. The game reminder will come out on Thursday due to Friday's RDO, so please be sure to respond when you get the email. The full schedule is on the website.
Have a nice long weekend!
