Well, so much for TOAD Leader Charlie's pre-game prediction that the TOADs would lose this game. Thank goodness for the mercy rule! And for the double-mercy rule! Pretty convenient to only have to get one out to take care of an inning... it worked easily twice, and a little less easily the third time, but we managed. Funny how you can get all seven innings in when one team only gets one out for a couple of innings.

Defensive highlights: EricG(SS) made a great catch of a steaming line drive of the game's first pitch. Then, EricG(SS) threw to Jes(2B) for the second out, and BobG(OF) caught a big fly ball for the third. In the third inning, Mandell(3B) bobbled a ground ball, only to recover nicely and in time to make the throw to Ron(1B) in the third, and EricG(SS) did something similar, without the bobble, to Ron(1B) in the fourth for the only real outs required in those innings. Douglas and Randy made good outfield catches in the fifth, Ron(1B) made a really good unasisted out in the sixth, and Randy made a good catch for the third out in the seventh inning.

On the offensive side, in the first innng, EricG tried for a sneaky feet award, but was caught between second and third and tagged out. KarenT took a tag in, um, a delicate location going to third in the second inning. We did much better when we switched to more of a small ball tactic, batting around in the sixth inning. We had no home runs (Kelly kept catching them), but Ann lined a triple into left. RBIs were knocked in by Randy, EricG (2), KarenC (2), Douglas, KarenT, DaveS (2), EricB, Ann, and ScottE.

TOAD notes: Dave was hit in the knee by pitches twice while at bat (you'd think after the first one he'd learn to get out of the way!), Seamus managed to get hit by two throws (once where there was plenty of padding), and several Bruiser guys made Kelly a very happy girl out in center field.

Our next game is TUESDAY, MAY 31 (yes, the day after the holiday). We will be home team against the Gravity Fielders on field H7 (ball-eating sewer). We'll be missing Linda, KarenT, and the Reddings -- everyone else please be sure to let me know if you're coming or not.

Have a great long weekend!

Karen :)
