Bruisers vs. Deep Space Cadets (fka Gravity Frawgs/Dawgs) May 26, 2009

The temperature wasn't that warm, but both teams had classic meltdowns. The Cadets, playing in honor of their missing Italian Stallion, had theirs in the second inning, and the Bruisers had theirs starting in the fourth and going through the fifth. Fortunately, the Cadets' meltdown ended up being bigger than the Bruisers', and the Bruisers were able to stop the bleeding soon enough to not lose the game. Phew!

Between all the magic and misery, here's how the Cadet outs came: In the first inning, Simon(3B) scooped up a grounder and threw it to KarenC(2B) for a force, EricG(SS) grabbed a grounder and threw it to KarenC(2B) for a force, and then Nancy(P) got a grounder to Ron(1B) for the third out. In the second inning, Gerardo(LF) made a nice catch, then Randy(CF) made a nice catch, and then Simon(3B) snagged a grounder and laid a tab on the runner going to third base. In the third out, Randy(CF) made a nice running catch, Simon(3B) got a grounder to Shane(1B), and Gerardo (LF) made a nice fly ball catch, earning style points for his jump. In the fourth, Gerardo(LF) fielded a ball in the outfield and threw a bomb to EricG(SS) who had covered third base to force a runner, EricB(SS) then made a nice running two-handed catch, and then Gerardo(LF) caught a flyball. In the fifth, Simon(3B) made a nice catch, then he made an unassisted force at third, and Shane(1B) made an unassisted out at first. Phew!

Offensively, we were like night and day compared to last week's game. We were hitting machines, and double mercied the Cadets! :) Everyone got at least one hit, and everyone scored at least once (except KarenC who kept getting forced out - waah). We had home runs by Gerardo, EricB, triples by EricB and Nora (which I still maintain could have been a home run if she had ignored her third base coach and kept running), and a tree double by EricB. Paul was robbed of a line drive by an excellent catch by the DSC third baseman. RBIs were earned by Simon (3), Gerardo (4), Nancy (4), EricB (4), EricG (3), Nora, and Shane (2). Randy gets the Sneaky Feet Award for coming in to score on EricB's single-handed double play out while he was batting (EricB was thrown out at first for one out, and when Randy scored behind that, he brought a mercy out) in the fourth inning.

Our next game is WEDNESDAY June 3. We'll be the home team against Voodoo TOAD Fury on field HS (grass). Everyone please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
