May 29, 1997 vs. Planet X

FIRST THINGS FIRST:

Our next game is this MONDAY, JUNE 2 on field H2 (middle field by the water fountain, where we were last night) against the Goat Scouts. Game time 5:30, arrive early to warm up, etc., etc. I already know that we'll be missing Dave and Mary Beth Redding, Mike, Bobbyjoe, and Scott, so... EVERYBODY, let me know whether or not you'll be at the game. I believe we may guest appearances from a couple of French guys who work with Brad (Vas-Y! Vas-Y!). In order to be as redundant as possible, I will be doing the usual game reminders via voicemail and email later this morning.

********** Now, on to last night's game:

Who came (order of arrival): Scott, Karen, Andy, Dan, JohnK, Jenny, Mark, Gretchen, Jes, Manley, Marc, Gary and Barb.

Who saw: Max, Emily, Claire, Rachel, JohnD and Toto.

Who conquered: Them 12-7 (tough game, but our most respectable loss yet!)

Who ate: Gary, Karen, Scott, JohnD, Barb, JohnK, and Marc at Round Table. We were later joined by Brad, Beth, and some folks they work with (sorry, I can't remember all the names).

Notice: we got all the way to the seventh inning for the first time, too!

We sure earned our name tonight, with Manley getting hit by Jes' hit ball, Marc catching a ball with his wrist during warmups, and Mark's throw back to the pitcher without making sure she was watching. By far, however, "Don't go down" kudos go to the Planet X runner on third who was hit in the midsection by his own batter. Ouch!

Best of all, we didn't get mercied! Almost, but no cigar. HA! The outcome could have been much worse, but defense sparkled with a couple of great double plays in the second and fifth innings, and some great outfield catches. Offensively, we got no home runs, but we did get a whole mess of doubles. Good hits were everywhere (unfortunately, so were their fielders)! RBI's were earned by Scott, Andy, Dan (2), John, Manley, and Marc. Chuckle of the game: Andy's unique fielding style (put up your glove, cover your head, and pray) at first while waiting for Manley's ball to get to him from third in the fifth inning. :)

Stay tuned for a batting cage announcement! It'll most likely be sometime in the next couple of weeks on a Saturday night at Grand Slam in Monrovia.

And, check your emails for the schedule of the next nine games, if you haven't seen it already.

See ya Monday,
Karen :)
