It was a beautiful day for a ball game (a "Chamber of Commerce day" as Vin Scully would call it). Both teams fielded plenty of players, and the game was actually a lot of fun, despite the final outcome. We like the Wild Turkeys. The main thing to remember is don't hit to their shortstop or that kid who made the fantastic catches in the outfield. To read the Turkeys' post-game report, go to: http://eis.jpl.nasa.gov/~mgatti/WildTurkeys/Games/Game7_Bruisers.html (I'm not sure if our off-lab folks will be able to access this page, sorry). On the good side, we played pretty well as a whole. On the flip side, we were unfortunately not able to recover from what's become our traditional meltdown inning (STOP THAT!), which occurred after DaveS left (remember that whole "equal opportunity picker-oner" thing?). All is not lost, however, because we'll very likely get the chance to play them again towards the end of the season.
Fielding highlights include EricG(3B) getting the first two putouts in the first inning, including one where the ball lined it's way into his glove. EricB(C) made a good heads-up, running, stumbling catch of a foul out, and BobG(SS) made an unassisted out at second in the second. The third inning went quickly, 3-up-3-down, with Randii(1B) making a nice unassisted out at first base. In the fourth EricG(3B) combined on a very nice double play with Ron (1B). EricG(3B) caught a line drive in the fifth, and BobG(SS) made a good backhand catch in the sixth. I seem to remember some good outfield catches, too, but none of them got written down.
We had no home runs or triples tonight and almost everyone got at least one hit (altho' we still had too many pop-ups!); KarenT got hers while switch hitting. EricB hit a good liner to the left, but it was caught by the third baseman. EricG gets the "He knows what he did" award for getting tagged out between third and home in the fifth inning. RBIs were earned by KarenC, EricB, Ron, Ann, Emmanuell, Chris (3), Nancy, Randii (2) and Linda (2).
Our next game is Thursday June 8 when we'll be the home team against the L.A. Monkeys of Pasadena on field H7 (corner). So far I know we'll be missing Douglas and Juan. Everyone else should respond to my reminder next week.
Have a great weekend!
