Well, imagine our surprise when we found ourselves tied going into the sixth inning. Imagine our greater surprise when we found ourselves STILL tied going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Imagine knowing we had to score just one run against the tough Paper Tigers to win... but Jeff and Randy took care of business, coming up with two doubles to take care of the deadlock. BRUISERS WIN! :) And not even by the skin of our teeth. :)

Paper Tigers outs came like this: In the first inning, ScottM(LF) made a nice catch of a shallow fly ball, then Simon(3B) started a double play by fielding a grounder, stepping on third base to force that runner, and firing over to Ron(1B) to get that runner. In the second inning, KarenC(2B) caught a popup, ScottE(C) chased down a full-swing bunt and threw it to Earl(1B) over the runner's head, then Earl(1B) caught an infield fly ball (about three feet higher off the ground than KarenC would have...) In the third inning, Jeff(SS) did a great job to stay with a grounder that made a wicked hop and got the ball to Ron(1B) to just beat the runner, Earl(LF) caught a long fly ball, then Dave(P) scooped up a little bouncer and threw it Ron(1B). In the fourth inning, Jeff(SS) speared a hard line drive, EricB(C) caught a popup, then Jeff(SS) got a low grounder over to Earl(1B). In the fifth inning, Simon(SS) was a busy guy, fielding a grounder, tagging second base and jumping over the sliding runner, then twice more getting ground balls over to Ron(1B). In the sixth inning, Paul(RF) caught a fly ball at the treeline, Simon(3B) got a fast grounder over to Earl(1B), then ScottM(LF) caught a fly ball.

Offensively, the Bruisers were able to take advantage of a Paper Tigers meltdown in the fourth inning, sending 14 of our 15 players to the plate, and scoring nine runs to take the lead. We had no home runs, but did have a triple by Ron and a fair number of doubles (tree and otherwise). RBIs were earned by KarenC, Martin, ScottM (2), Dave, Jeff, Randy (5), Jes (2), Simon, EricB, and Paul. Ann gets the "Hey, what game are you playing?" award for her two foot stops of ground balls at short field.

Our next game is on TUESDAY June 8 when we'll be the home team against the Wild Turkeys on field HN (dirt). So far, we already know that we'll be missing Amy, KarenC, ScottE, and Nora. Everyone else should respond to Nancy's game reminder.

Have a great game next week!

Karen :)
