Admittedly, there comes a time in every life where one has to decide between wimping out and not wimping out. Today was one of those days for the Bruisers. We decided to not wimp out because of the inclement weather, but we had probably one of the yuckiest games in Bruiser history. Yeah, it was, guys. But we can blame it on the rain. Or the mud. Or the cold. Or a slick outfield. Or just blame it on your beloved manager? Okay, maybe not that last thing. But ya gotta admit, we may have gone down but we went down fighting.

Despite the weather and languishing in the mercy rule for most of the game, we got some really good plays, including an almost double-play in the first inning, BobbyJoe's awesome catch of a blooper in the right side foul territory in the first inning, and two JohnK-Marc combos in the fourth inning to get both outs, and a heads-up play between Andy at pitcher and JohnK who was covering third to put a runner out. Kudos go to Jerome for surviving his first ever game of softball and for always knowing who to throw the ball to when he got it. :) We also got a lot of body blocking action in the outfield to stop balls from getting too far away. Play of the day goes to JohnK for his herculean throw from short field all the way to Scott at home plate to get a runner (making up for his throw from shortstop which sailed past BobbyJoe's waiting glove, but stayed out of the street because it hit a tree).

Anders had some terrific hitting with a BobbyJoe-chasing homer and a triple which brought in a total of three runs. Sacrifice of the game goes to Andrew who slid through a huge puddle in center field, coating one whole leg, sock, shoe and a large portion of his shorts in mud, yet stayed for the duration of the game. RBIs were hit in by KarenT, JohnK (2), Anders (3), Renaud and Marc. I know that's not 10, but we missed counting a run in the third inning and I don't know who ran it in unless it was Mikael hitting in Andy, and then in the fourth inning either Andrew or I got an RBI, but it didn't get marked in the book. If anyone has any memory of the missing run or RBI please let me know.

Next Game: We have a bye next week, so our next game is Wednesday June 16 on field H3 against the Eclectic Eccentrics. Let me know whether you can make it or not when I put out the reminder. So far I only know we'll be missing Andrew for that game.

BATTING CAGE: Since we have a bye next week, I'm issuing an invitation for folks to go to the batting cage (Grand Slam in Monrovia) on Monday night (June 7) at 6:30. If you're interested, please let me know ASAP so I can reserve the right amount of cage time.

That's it for now, see ya either on Monday or the 16th!

Karen :)
