The afternoon was cold and cloudy until BobT arrived, bringing the sun with him and giving us nice weather for the game. Bruiser defense heated up around the time the Goats cooled off, but it was too little too late and there weren't enough innings left. However, it should be noted that the Goats scored far fewer runs against us than they did against the Homers in their 30-21 thrashing two weeks ago. :)

The game ended up not starting until 5:50 because (i) the Goats bringing the equipment didn't arrive until about 5:30, then (ii) they set it up in the wrong place and had to move it, and then (iii) they set it up so poorly so we had to reset it for them. More speculation as to the undefeatedness of the Goats came up when they later tried to run a guy for a girl (because the kid wanted to run, not because the hitter needed a runner) and Goat management had to be reminded of the rules (and, Bryan, your "he runs like a woman" comment was just plain mean!).

In the first inning, Randy(RF) made a spectacular running catch in center field in the first inning, and later Mandell(LF) made a beautiful running over-the-shoulder catch. In the third inning BobG(SS) made an amazing catch of a hard line drive. The fifth inning featured a really good play from Mandell(3B) to Ron(1B) to get a runner. We held the Goats to zero home runs, but they did hit plenty of nice hard ground balls that managed to squeek past the infielders. We had a little trouble with the whole "quit panicking and throwing the ball" thing in the fourth inning (yes, it was funny in hindsight), but all in all we had a pretty decent game.

The Bruisers had no home runs, but JohnD had a triple in the third inning. JohnD took one for the team as a hard throw from the Goat third baseman glanced off the first baseman's glove and hit him on the side of the head; he kept going and made it to third base, scoring on Ann's at-bat. RBIs were scored by Randy, Douglas (2), Ron, JohnD, and Ann (3). Karen gets the Twinkletoes award for getting back on second base before the ball got there when Randy lined out to the pitcher in the first inning, and Nancy gets the Twinklefingers award for her dive back to second base in the second inning on BobG's single.

For those who needed to know, our season record is now 3-5.

Our next game is TUESDAY June 14 against the Fringes on field H7 (ball-eating sewer). We'll be home team again. I only know we'll be missing KarenT; everyone else please make sure you tell me if you're coming or not.

Have a great weekend!

Karen :)
