* * * * * * * * Now, on to the game

Who came (in batting order): Karen, Andy, Jenny, Mark, John, Tina, Gary, Kyle (Tina's nephew), Bethany, Brooke (Tina's niece), Brad, Beth, Renaud, Art, Gretchen, Kent, Abi and Steve.

Who saw: Scott, Max, Emily, John, Barb (from the Cadets side of home plate), Claire, Jessica, and Toto. Everybody thank Scott for managing the game and making sure we all got plenty of playing time. :)

Who won: They did, but only 18-14, our smallest differential so far. :)

Who ate: Gary, Renaud, Kent, John, Andy, Jill, Steve, Jenny, Max, Emily and Karen at Baja Fresh (good pick, Andy!)

Things looked pretty grim at 5:30, as only six Bruisers, all warmed up and ready to go, sat there wondering "Where Is Everybody??". Then, suddenly over the horizon came the second and third waves, bringing the team to a total of 18 members. Phew!! For a while there, we thought we were going to have to borrow Cadets... eewwwwwwww! Yeah, well, we would have stationed them in the sprinklers...

Those of us who partook in dinner agreed that it was a good game, overall, even with weird stuff like Gary's blind and full-of-faith to third at the behest of the Bruisers to get out the Cadet who *thought* he was home free and went to sit down. We got some good catches and plays, including a miraculous (albeit questionable to some, but we'll take it anyway!) Brad-Karen tagout at home to end the third inning, and Brooke's strategic tripping of the runner at second base. No home runs, but everybody got at least one hit. RBIs were knocked in by Tina, Gary (2), Kyle, Bethany, Brooke, Brad, Renaud, Art (2), Gretchen, Kent, Abi and Steve. Notable rookie cheers go to French dude Renaud who, in his first-ever softball game, got a hit, AND an RBI, AND scored a run. AND, he made a great play out in left center to stop the ball and get it back in. What a natural!

Next game is Monday July 16, 5:30 on field H2 against the LA Radars. We are the home team, and I need a volunteer to deal with the the equipment (otherwise we'll be using those flimsy plastic bases again) since Barb won't be at the game. If you'd can help, please call me at 4-2987 and I'll tell you where to get them from. Don't forget to let me know whether you'll be at the game or not.

See y'all Monday!
Karen :)
