It was a beautiful afternoon for a game, which, unfortunately, was marred by a near-riot caused by the foul-mouthed bike-rage boy who decided he owned the whole park and the Eclectic Eccentric's manager who, when he decided he couldn't win the argument over our catcher's fair/foul call, turned to his team and said "forget it, we're winning anyway" -- Oh yeah, he's our favorite opposing manager. Not. He gets the booby prize for unnecessary attitude. The EEs actually tended to argue a lot of calls. On the good side, we were happy to welcome Jason, for whom Earl made it a requirement that he play softball with us when he hired him for his real job (good Earl!!). Jason comes to us from the Canadian Leagues.
Defensively, we actually didn't do so bad (well, okay, except for KarenC who didn't manage to catch anything that came her way all night, but luckily other folks did). Jason earned style points for his tumbling catch in left field in the first inning, which he followed up with a great snowcone catch in the second inning. We had good outfield catches by Earl and Dave, and had several good infield plays as well. Offensively, we had home runs by Andrew and Earl, and a triple by Ann. RBIs were batted in by Andrew (3), Jes, Mikael, Jason, Earl, Mary Beth, and Jim. Thanks to all our pinch-runners this evening.
Next week is a bye, so we don't have a game. We will have a game the following week (week of June 25), for sure, but I don't know what day yet (the season goes through the end of August, remember!). Keep your eyes on your email or the team's web page for a message from either me or Scott about upcoming games. Hopefully we'll find out before I come back from England.
See ya in a couple of weeks! Now, I gotta go pack......
Karen :)
