Huge thanks to Alicia, who was called after an ailing Jes bailed from playing. She played with the Marauders way back in the late 90's, but this was a Bruiser debut. Alicia played EVERY inning at short field and did a fine job stopping balls AND backing up other players! Also Alee, visiting with Uncle Marty, agreed to bat for us as otherwise we didn't have the proper M-F ratio in the lineup. Thanks Alee!

Despite the score it was a fun game, with friendly opponents - Juan and Kelly continued their relationship, picking up from last year ;-)

The game ball had the most fun, as the Toads practiced hitting to right field and sent the poor ball into the street NUMEROUS times, to be run over by several cars, soccer-kicked by a biker, and even golfed at!

Our batting needs work, as evidenced by the score. Ian, Juan, and Bob G knocked in our 4 runs, thanks to hits from Eric B, Ian, Randii, Juan, and Bob. Juan had 2 doubles in his 2 at-bats.

Defensively there are more highlights. And once again we thank the mercy (and double-mercy!) rule. In the first inning Ann and Alicia both stopped line drives, earning Ann a Bruise of the Game on her knee. Juan caught Kelly's fly to left, and Ron-Bob and Ann-Ron combined for the other two outs. In the second, Eric B made a good catch in center and then listened to several people tell him to throw to third as the runner from 2nd was tagging. Unfortunately he was too literal and threw to 3rd base, not the 3rd base PLAYER waving at him. There's also a note saying Ian made a terrific stop in left in the second, but then there are "We Love Ian" notes in the same writing ALL OVER the scoresheet - we know who NOT to give the sheet to now! In the fourth inning Bob-Ron and Ann-Ron made the 2 outs we needed (only single mercy!) In the 5th Ann made the final Toad out with a nice jumping catch of a line drive.

Our next game is Thursday 22 June against the Gravity Fielders. We'll be missing Nancy V, Eric B, Karen C, Linda, Scott E, Rob, Dave S., and maybe Juan. Scott M will be guest coaching but not playing, PLEASE respond to his email and really try to make the game.
