This turned out to be our fastest game in a very long time, completing all seven innings by 7:00. Was it the heat? Was it the fact that the Bruisers were scoreless in five of the seven innings (with three innings having one or zero hits)? Probably the latter. But hey, we knew it would probably be that way against the TOADs, even with several of their better hitters away in Italy (and lots of Bruiser drop-outs which left both managers scrambling for fill-ins). Regardless of the score, it was a fun game, and the Bruisers ended up out of mercy.

We finally got a nice "two-buck shot" to pay off when EricG sent a ball sailing into the group of Frisbee players in deep center, sending them scrambling for cover in the sixth inning. Shortly after that, one of the TOADs did the same thing (so Charlie, you'd better give that guy his two bucks!)

Defensive plays went this way: In the first inning, KarenC(2B) fielded a grounder and flipped it to Jose(SS) to cut down the lead runner, then ScottM(RF) fought the sun and won, catching Charlie's high fly ball, and then Jose(SS) caught a popup. In the second, EricG(SS) fielded a grounder and got it to KarenC(2B), and then Jose(3B) and EricG(SS) caught fly balls. In the third, Scott(RF) caught Charlie's liner to right, then Tony(CF) caught a high fly ball (earning style points), then ScottM(RF) threw a ball into EricG(SS) to tag the runner coming into second to end that inning. In the fourth inning, Gerardo LF) caught a big fly ball, then Ann(SF) snared a liner, and then Ron(1B) made a nice "gut catch" in foul ground. In the fifth, EricG(SS) fired a grounder to Ron(1B), Tony (LF) made a nice running catch for some style points, and then he caught a fly ball for the third out. In the sixth inning, Jose(SS) fired grounders to Ron(1B) twice, and then Tony(CF) caught a fly ball pretty much on top of Gerardo's head.

Offensive highlights include Tony's giant tree-trimming double to center in the fourth inning, and EricG's Frisbee-player-clearing "two buck shot" home run in the sixth. Nancy gets the "Sneaky Fingers" award for her dive back to second after Rob's hit. RBIs were earned by ScottM (2), Gerardo, and EricG (3).

Our next game is Monday, June 23, when we will be home team against the Goat Scouts. We'll be missing a lot of folks, so everyone please be sure I know if you're coming or not.

Cheers!
