Bruisers vs. L.A. Radars, June 19, 2007

Bruisers: KarenC, EricB, EricG, Nancy, Douglas, Ron, Amy, EarlC, PaulH, Ann, ScottE (aka Grumpy Cupcake) and Jessica.

Bruiser fans: Dave (briefly), and a very well-behaved and not-running-amuck Rachel who even kept score on her own scoresheet (yes, Amy, I know she has her amuck days)

Bruises: None to Bruisers, but the Radar SS took a bad hop from the fourth bounce of a grounder from the first batter to his and was grumpier than ScottE for the rest of the game.

Diners at Corner Bakery: EricB, Nancy, Jessica, Rachel, Amy, EarlC, Ron, KarenC, and Ann

Quotes from the game:

"WAAAAAY FOUL!" (way to call the call, Ann!)
"Eric, your shoe's ringing!"
"Hey, where's the nurse? We need the nurse!"

It was a hot day, but the dozen-or-so semi-supervised Radar kidlets running amuck didn't seem to care. The game started late waiting for more Radar adults, and we finally got underway around 5:45. It had been reported by several teams that the Radars typically call the game (at whatever stage it's in, without calling last inning) at 7:00 to pack up and disappear, and that's what we expected, so imagine our surprise when they didn't disappear.

Defensively, both teams melted down a bit in the fourth inning. Radar manager Jeff expressed disbelief when finding out that the Bruisers had scored seven runs in the top of that inning saying "How can you score seven runs in one inning?" Then, they went and scored eight. Really, Jeff, haven't you learned yet that there is no lead big enough to give up? Now, on to the highlights... Nancy(P) fielded a dribbler and successfully got it to Ron(1B) for the first out in the second inning, then Douglas(3B) snagged a hard liner, and EricG(SS) fielded a grounder and got it to Ron for the third out. In the third inning Ron(1B) and Douglas(3B) each caught high popups, and then EricG(SS) fielded a ball and fired a very scary fastball to Ron(1B) to beat the runner. Eric(SS) was busy in the fourth inning with a feed to Jes(2B) and then another fastball to Ron, and EarlC(CF) made a nice catch for the third out. EarlC(CF) repeated the act for the first out in the fifth inning, (then ! we got a mercy out, oops), and then EricG(SS) clanked a grounder and made a great recovery to fire the ball to Ron for the third out. (Yes, there were no notes for anything in the first inning).

Offensively, we it looked like it would be an almost hitless game, but things picked up after ScottE arrived. The only homer of the game was from PaulH, and EarlC Sneaky Feeted his way into third for a triple. RBIs were knocked in by EricB(4), EricG (3), Nancy, EarlC (2), PaulH (3) and ScottE. KarenC disproved last week's steroid theory by going only 1 for 4 (but that one was bruiser!).

Our next game is on Wednesday, June 27 when we will be the home team against the Goat Scouts. Everyone please be sure I know if you're coming or not.

Have a nice weekend!

Karen :)
