It was a beautiful afternoon for a softball game, and we ended in our second tie of the season (thank you to everyone who showed up on time). The Goat Scouts showed up with eight players so we loaned them a non-fielding catcher and had us a game. ScottM noted that the Goat Scouts formed up an all-woman outfield... I think we could do an all-woman infield, but probably not an outfield. The two teams had a fun time playing together. Just as it should be in C League.
Defensive plays came like this: In the first inning Jeff(3B) fielded a grounder and tagged the runner, Randy(CF) made a nice sun catch 'way out in center field, then Jeff(SS) got a grounder to ScottM(1B). In the second inning, Matt(LF) made a nice running catch in shallow left field, then he made a nice running catch of another big fly ball, then Jose(SS) scooped up a grounder and threw it to ScottM(1B). In the third inning, Jose(SS) got a grounder to Scott(1B), EricB(RF) fought the sun to catch a fly ball, then Karen(P) got a little dribbler tto ScottM(1B). In the fourth inning, Jeff(3B) caught a little fly ball, Jose(SS) got a hard grounder to ScottM(1B), then Nancy(P) got a grounder to Scott(1B). In the fifth inning, Jose(SS) got a grounder to ScottM(1B), Matt(LF) made a running catch that ended with a slide on his knees, then Jose(SS) got another grounder to ScottM(1B). In the sixth inning, KarenC(2B) made a force out at second, then Matt(LF) caught a big fly ball and then made a running sliding catch to end the game, earning style points for that last catch.
Offensive highlighs include home runs by ScottM and Jose, a triple by Jose, and a tree double by Matt. If Jose had gotten one more at-bat and hit a single, he'd have hit for the cycle. RBIs were earned by ScottM (3), Randy (2), Jose (5), Liza, and Ann. EricB gets a Sneaky Feet award for making it to third base on Nancy's single, and a "Good Boy" pat on the head for staying there when told to stay. He also gets kudos for making his forceout at third base take enough time to happen that the runners behind him were able to get to their bases.
Our next game is Wednesday July 7 against LA Radars on HS. Everyone please be sure I know if you're coming or not. In the meantime, have a safe and fun holiday weekend!
