It was close, it looked like the Bruisers would WIN! - but alas, the meltdown inning occurred in the 6th and the Bruisers didn't have time to recover.

For most of the game, the defense shined like a fresh bruise. Jes had a good putout to Pat in the first. In the second, Jesse threw out the littlest Gravity Fielder, Alex, from catcher and Emmanuell made a good two handed body catch of a fly in right. The third saw two catches by Doug at third and a good catch by Juan in center. Jesse and Ann made good plays in the 5th. Jes had a good catch in the meltdown 6th inning.

Offensive highlight include a 3-run "home run" by Juan in the 5th; two good whacks by Jes (one of which went for hit); Jesse with 2 doubles and a single; and a triple by Paul in the second. "Sneaky feet" award goes to Emmanuell for advancing from second to third on a slow ground ball to the third baseman. RBI's were notched by Juan (3), Ron, Pat (2), Doug (2), BobG (4), KarenT, and Emily. Emmanuell's foul-out to Alex in the second won't make the Bruiser highlight reel, but will definitely be on the Gravity Fielder's web gem reel.

Emily gets the Bruise of the Week award for a barehanded stop of a hard ground ball at second base (where are the pictures?). Ann gets the off-field injury of the week for a (probably) broken right pinky (but she played anyway - even 3rd base).

Thanks to all of you for coming out during the Bruiser work-travel period. Thanks to Juan for organizing batting practice while I was figuring out who was coming.

Next game is Wednesday June 28 against the Crawdads on field H9 (near the water fountain). Most of the globe-trotting Bruisers should be back home. Please let Karen know if you are or are not coming.
