Quotes around the dugout:
- "You haven't lost your nine iron form!"  EricB to Ann when she totally golfed at a pitch
- "C'mon, baby, hit it right here!" KarenC to PT Travis, waving her glove, hoping to make a third out on him
- "Yeah, I'm a little woogie"  EricB after taking a bounce between the eyes (don't worry, he's fine)

Well, I'm not sure that even if we had been home team tonight, that it would have helped.  We got our butts well and truly kicked, but against the Paper Tigers, that wasn't unexpected.  Despite the score, it was a fun game.

Paper Tiger outs came thusly:  In the first inning, Karen(2B) fielded a soft grounder and threw an even softer flip to Ron(1B) who was able to catch it while keeping his toe on the base, then Gerardo(LF) made a beautiful running catch, and then KarenC(2B) made a running, twisty, backwards catch of a little fly ball (Travis #1).  In the second inning, Jose(SS) grabbed a grounder and threw it to Ron(1B) for a force, Gerardo(LF) made another fine running catch, and then Nancy(P) combined with Ron(1B) to get that runner. Somewhere in there, Paul(3B) forgot he wasn't playing football and put a tackle on a guy going to third.  In the third, after many many many long foul balls, Gerardo(LF) didn't have to run into the trees to catch a big fly ball, Jose(SS) caught a hard line drive, then KarenC(P) made a nice two-handed catch of a little popup (Travis #2).  In the fourth inning, we hit mercy, then double mercy, and finally had a hitter (Travis #3) ground to Jose(SS) who tossed the ball to KarenC(2B) to force the runner coming from first base.  Kudos must be given to valiant attempts by EricB(RF) to catch a fly ball that went through trees, and to Ann(C) for catching a ball being thrown home while she was busy clearing the bat away.

Bruiser hits were a bit lacking (note to self: don't hit to their center fielder.  or short stop.  or left fielder.  or third baseman. or pitcher), with the biggest hits coming in two tree doubles by Gerardo.  RBIs were earned by Nancy, Simon (2), and Ann.  We'll do better next time, gang! Remember -- "Patience", "Wait for one you like" (which, translated, means "wait for a _good_ pitch", and... "NO GOLFING!"

Our next game is some time during the week of July 6.  Hopefully the schedule will come out tomorrow or early next week.

Have a great weekend and a safe holiday!

Karen :)
