The
box score
1 2 3 4 Total
The O Zone 1 4 11 3
19
Bruisers 1 0 17 0 18
(I think this is how it
went, as OZone scoring was a tad iffy...)
On the longest
game-playing day of the season when we played our shortest game, it looked
like it would be another one of those really grim "kick our butts from here
to Glendale" games, when we were mercied by the middle of the top of the
third inning. BUT, Bruiser bats came to life and we answered back with 17
(count 'em - 17!) runs of our own to pull ahead by one. Unfortunately, in
the fourth inning Bruiser bats went back to sleep and we couldn't score.
Ah well. But it was closer than it could have been! We might have played
longer, but when I asked the O Zone leader about playing until 7:15 (it was
just before 7:00 and we had only just finished the 3rd inning), he said
"aw, let's just make this the last inning". Remind me never to fall for
that again!
Offensively, we did well, especially in our 17-run
3rd inning. Almost everyone got at least one hit during the game. Scott
hit the only homer of the game, a solo shot, in the first inning, and Mike
and JohnD got triples. Unlike last week when we were the Masters of the
Full Swing Bunt, we got some legitimately very nice hits this time. RBIs
were knocked in by Karen (the bossy one), Scott (2), Mike, Andrew, Brendan
on a sacrifice, Karl, Kent, Clarissa, Steve, JohnD (2), Rhiannon (2), Marc,
and Dave (3). JohnK and Mark, as O Zoners, also knocked in runs for the
other team (remind me never to trade these two guys again; didn't I make
that mistake last year??!!!) Defensive highlights included Karl's double
play to Marc in the second inning, Brendan and Steve's rundown of the
runner stuck between third and home in the third inning, and JohnD's line
drive snare in the fourth.
Sad point of the game was bidding
farewell to Karl, who has to return home to San Antonio. But, he's
promised to keep up with our goings-ons and come out to play whenever work
sends him back this way. Right Karl?!?!? :) Thanks for playing with
us!!!
Next week's game is Monday June 2 on field H2 against the
Gravity Fielders. As usual, everyone please let me know if I can expect
you at the game or not. NOTE: This is Renaud's last game before he
returns to France on July 2 to scout/train/manage softball players there.
He has picked Souplantation for dinner -- everybody plan to come both to
the game and to dinner!!!
See you Monday!
Karen
