Bruisers vs. Crawdads, June 28, 2006

Bruisers: KarenC, Ron, EricG, Emmanuell, Jes, Ellie, BobG, BobbyJoe, Ann (aka Studmuffette), Tony (recruiting points to Ann, on loan from FRAWGS, Ian, KarenT, and Randii.

Fantasy result: "In the third inning Randii Wessen made a single-handed triple play". Maybe he also hit his head when he hurt his calf.

Yes, I know it was a hot hot afternoon. Thanks for coming out, everyone, and thanks for hanging in there without any breaks. Hey - we had our first official win of the season tonight!!

Defensive highlights were plenty tonight. Our outfielders were largely at rest, with the exception of Ian(LF) who had to chase down a lot of balls. BobG(SS) made an unassisted double play for the first two outs, and Ron(1B) made a good leap to catch a throw from EricG(3B) and land before the runner reached the bag. In the second inning BobG(SS) made the third and fourth outs when he scooped up a grounder, stepped on second to force the runner, and then threw to Ron(1B). The third inning went quickly with two BobG(3B)-Ron(1B) plays, followed by an excellent grab of a grounder by Ellie(2B). In the fourth inning Ron(1B) made a good backwards running catch of a popup. In the fifth inning KarenC(P) made a nice 2-handed catch of a little infield popup, but let BobG(SS) get the big high ugly popup. In the sixth inning Emmanuell(LF) made a exciting-looking catch, and Tony(LF) made a pretty arabesque catch. Randii hurt himself coming out of the box to catch a foul popup, and ! had to avail himself of the services of our resident nurses.

Offensively, we did very well. In the fourth inning Tony faked out the third baseman enough that KarenT made it all the way to first and everyone was safe. EricG gets the Sneaky Feet award for getting home without bowling over the catcher in the third inning. In the fifth inning EricG and Emmanuell both earned Sneaky Slide awards (risking tattoo and other skin) for sliding into home (again, to not knock over the catcher). Ellie alertly dodged BobG's right field liner which went directly over first base in the fifth. Home runs were hit by Tony and BobG, and RBIs were knocked in by KarenC (2), Emmanuell, Jes, Ellie (2), BobG (3), Tony, and KarenT.

Our next game is still TBD, as is the location. At the moment, I'm 95% sure we won't end up with a game next week. Hopefully we'll get a schedule and location for remaining games soon. I will get it out to you as soon as I get it.
