See? There's a very good reason we have nurses on our team... we need them! We had a very ouchy game last night on the way to our win... during batting practice KarenC accidentally whacked Amy in the tummy with a ball (good thing she's been working out with "Abs of Steel"!), and then in the middle of the third inning a warmup ball got away from the Turkeys first baseman Debbie, and as it was tossed back to her, it went through a tree which caused her to lose sight of it until it hit her in the face. Ouch!! This resulted in the loss of two Turkey players, so we loaned them KarenT and ScottE, but when they had a late player arrive, we got KarenT back. Later in the game, Turkeys third baseman Bill, while throwing to first, hit his pitcher, Kathy (Debbie's daughter, coincidentally), in the forearm instead. Unfortunately by that time, we were all out of ice packs. She was a trooper and stayed in the game.
Notable defensive plays include Jes'(2B) catch in the third inning (after which she nearly beaned KarenC in the head), a good Nancy(P) to Pat(1B) pass in the third inning, and Nancy's(P) "pogo stick" move to get a dawdling runner headed to first base in the fifth. Pat and Brad did great jobs at first base catching everything that was thrown their way. Our outfielders made some really really good catches (including ScottM's "our lead is quickly slipping away; I gotta catch this ball!" catch to end the game), and Eric was a raging beast at catcher. Offensively, we did well getting balls past the infielders and were hitless in only one inning. Almost every Bruiser had at least one hit during the game, including ScottE who had a nice double for the Turkeys. We had three home runs, one by a late-arriving BobG who had only one at-bat (ahhh, but what an at-bat it was!!!). The other home runs were hit by TGWMRN and Brad. RBIs were earned by Ron, Pat (2), TGWMRN (3), Brad, Je! s, Eric, Nancy, Anders, and BobG (3).
Our lifetime record against the Wild Turkeys is now 3 wins, 6 losses, and 2 ties.
Our next game is Thursday July 10 against the Gravity Fielders. The game will be at the Rose Bowl and we will be the visiting team. So far, I know we'll be missing Jes, Mikael and Marc.
See you next week, and have a fun and safe holiday weekend!
Karen :)

** from Amy:
"So, do I get an award for number of bruises? :-) Last night when I got home I counted them, and I had a record three. Interestingly, none of these were obtained while actually playing the real game.
I had the "Karen special" tummy bruise, a bruise on the fleshy part of my right hand from catching during warm up, and another one on my arm from throwing in the inning change.
You'd think I could get some actually playing, you know? :-)"
ed.note: I think Amy does hold the record for bruises achieved in one game! Let's not try to break it, tho', okay?
