It was a nice afternoon, and the game with the Eccentrics was pleasant and fun.  They seemed to hit primarily two ways, however, big long fly balls, or full swing bunts.  The bigger the guy, the buntier the hit. Go figure.  the only real glitch was the EEs calling "game over" at the end of fifth without first calling "last inning".  Hey, surprise!  The Bruisers led by a fair margin for most of the game, almost giving it up in the fourth inning, but came roaring back with a definitive lead in the top of the fifth to win the game.

Eccentric outs came like this... In the first inning, Jose(SS) fielded a hard grounder and fired it to Ron(1B), then Jose(SS) made a nice, stealthy backup to catch a pop fly that KarenC(2B) was confident she would catch (but didn't) right behind her, then Gerardo(LF) made a great running outfield catch.  In the second inning, Nancy(P) got a grounder to Ron(1B), then Jose(SS) tossed a grounder over to Simon(3B) to force the runner going to third, then Jose(SS) made an unassisted out at second base.  In the third, Jose(SS) (yeah, we like Jose at short) caught a popup, then KarenC(2B) made an unassisted out at second, and then Nancy(P) fielded a grounder and got it to Shane(1B). In the fourth inning, Nancy(P) caught a hard line drive, then in a rare Bruiser double play Nancy(P) fielded a grounder, threw it to Ron(1B) who stepped on first base, then threw to EricB(C) to tagged the runner coming home.  In the fifth inning, KarenC(2B) fielded a grounder and got it to Ron(1B) (who almost did the same thing for the second out, but the other team said Ron's foot wasn't on the right base, or some such nonsense, but we were up by a bunch so didn't argue too hard), and Gerardo(LF) made the last two outs by catching a big long pop to left and then a looooong fly ball.

Offensively, we did really well.  Almost everyone got at least one hit and almost all of those folks who got on base scored at least once.  We had home runs by Gerardo and Jose, and RBIs were earned by KarenC (2), Randy (2), EricB (2), Ron (2), Simon (2), Rob (2), Gerardo (6), KarenT, Jose (4), Amy, and Liza.  Nancy and Shane both get Sneaky Feet awards for making it home ahead of the ball in the third and fifth innings, respectively, Shane's run also bringing with it a mercy out.

[Due to the lateness of this writing, our next game has already taken place] :)

Cheers! Karen :)
