It was technically already a forfeit win since there were only six EEs at 5:45, but then we won for real anyway! In a ne'er-before-seen show of offense, the Bruisers mercied their opponents in the first inning. Then, we double-mercied them in the second inning! Who WERE these people? Were we spurred on by the screaming cheers of the Girl Scouts? Were we excited about the appearance of the pizza guy? Maybe it was having Dave Seal in the clean-up spot? Or, maybe it was just having KarenC not actually play? Whatever the reason, we'll take it, and we hope the spirit returns to us for the rest of our games.
Defensively, we were pretty expeditious tonight. In the first inning Gerardo(3B) caught a pop-up, then Jose(SS) got a grounder to Ron(1B), and then Ron made the third out by himself. The second inning gave us a great double-play by BobG(SS) and Ron(1B), and the third, fourth and fifth outs were made by Gerardo (3B) who ran down two out-of-play foul fly balls before catching the one which stayed in-play. In the third, BobG(SS) got a grounder to Ron(1B), then he started a double play that went from Bob(SS) to Melissa (2B) to Ron(1B). In the fourth inning, Melissa(CF) made a great running catch in the outfield, then Ron(P) caught a little popup, and then he made a nice recovery of a grounder to get it to Jose(1B) for what turned out to be the final out of the game.
Offensively, we were a team afire! In the first inning, we had 14 batters come to the plate -- that's everyone plus one. Everyone got at least one hit, and most folks scored at least one run, and many were all-for in hitting and scoring. We had no home runs (who needed 'em?), and several tree doubles. Melissa was robbed of a hit by a great running catch by the shortstop from behind their third baseman. RBIs were earned by Ron (2), Dave Seal, KarenT (2), Jose, ScottE (3), Gerardo (3), Amy, Anders (2), Paul (2), and BobG. KarenT gets the "How'd that go again?" award for what we are calling a sacrifice double-play RBI in the fourth inning.
Our next game is Wednesday July 18. We'll be the home team against the Procrastinators (a new, and very young, team) on field HS (grass). So far, I only know that we'll be missing EarlC, EarlM and Douglas. Everyone else please respond to the game reminder and let me know if you're coming or not.
Have a great week!
Karen :)
