The day was hot. Not new. It was Girl Scout Camp week. Not new, either. The Titans beat us. Also not new. Having to time out the game for a helicopter break? That was new. What the heck?!? Well, in addition to it being Girl Scout Camp week, it was apparently also "Montrose Search and Rescue, plus local Sheriff's demo day". There were several Sheriff's officers present, with the MSAR truck parked on the grass behind the bleachers at the dirt field. They were quietly doing their talking, when suddenly there was a Sheriff on the grass, in center field, oblivious that he was in the middle of the two games. Hello? Sir? Look out for that fly ball that's coming at your head, sir. Then, we got word that they were about to land a helicopter on the field. A what? A helicopter. On the field right where we were playing. Was someone hurt? No. Lost? No, it's a demo for the girl scouts. Wha? So, we obediently leave the field ('cuz who are we, while sober, to argue with Sheriffs, right?) and here comes a big, huge thing, blowing up dust, dirt, debris, dead animals, etc. from the trees, grass and everywhere (yuck!). Us grownups headed for cover - some folks taking refuge in their cars, some behind the backstop, and me behind the big guy on the Titans. The demonstration? To hover over center field to drop someone out and pick someone up. "Yaay!" scream the Girl Scouts. "Boo!" scream the rest of us on having our persons and cars sandblasted by the debris whipped up the the rotors. Length of game delay: 15-20 minutes, depending on how closely you were keeping track. I wonder if we can get some field rental money back on that? At any rate. That was the excitement for the day. In the game itself, the Bruisers took the lead early, then we got mercied (BTW, we were doing okay until the helicopter break blew away our mojo so we're blaming the loss on the Girl Scouts), but fought back enough to end the game un-mercied. Looks like they have some new ringers on their team.
Titan outs came thusly: In the first inning Shane(1B) made an unassisted out snagging a grounder and stepping on first base, Jeff(SS) got a grounder to Shane(1B), then ScottM(LF) made a nice catch of a big fly ball to left. In the second inning Ron(3B) got a grounder to Shane(1B), ScottM(LF) caught a fly ball, then Ron(3B) got another grounder to Shane(1B). In the second inning, Shane(3B) threw a grounder to Ron(1B), then Shane(3B) forced a runner coming into third base, then we were mercied. The fourth inning started with a mercy out, then Jeff(SS) got a hard grounder to Ron(1B), and ScottM(LF) caught a fly ball.
Offensively we were a little hamstrung. Shane and Randy were both robbed of really good hits by really miraculous catches We had no home runs or triples, but we did get a tree double by Randy in the fifth inning. RBIs were earned by Jeff (2), ScottM (3), Shane, Eric, Ann, and Ron. Randy gets a Sneaky Feet award for making it home from second base on Jeff's single.
Our next game is on TUESDAY July 20. We'll be the visiting team against the Deep Space Cadets. Please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
Have a great weekend!
Karen :)
