Bruisers vs. Titans, July 20, 2005

It was a hot, muggy afternoon, but our opponents (a new team in the league) were pleasant, fun, and just as goofy as we were, which made for a really fun game. We had to help them set up the field, and waited a bit for more players, but that was okay.

Our defense was pretty good, with the exception of several would-be catches that didn't quite stick (TWO HANDS!!!). In the second inning Mandell(3B) had a fielding brain fart which allowed the runner at second to sneak over to third, but he redeemed himself later in the inning with one-handed catch of a hard line drive. The third inning went 1-2-3 as BobG(3B) made a good recovery of a fumbled ground ball to fire it to Ron(1B) for an out in between two flyball outs. In the fourth Mandell(LF) made a long running catch in deep left, then BobG(3B) fired a bullet to Ron(1B), and then Mandell caught a pop fly ball for that third out. Juan made a couple of good outfield catches during the game. KarenC(P) made a good grab of a grounder to throw the ball to Ron(1B) for the last out.

BobbyJoe had the only home run of the game, and triples were hit by BobbyJoe and Mandell. RBIs were knocked in by Juan, DaveS (2), Ron (3), EricG, Jes, BobG (2), BobbyJoe (3), and ScottE. Ron went 4-for-4, BobG and BobbyJoe were each 3-for-3. In the third inning, BobG made a good belly flop to get his hand back on second base in the third, and ultimately scored. In the fourth innng, Ron got caught in a rundown between third and home when the third base coach sent him in the fourth (who was that coach, anyway?), and Ann was robbed of a hit on a really good dive (trip?) by the Titan center fielder. Mandell gets the night's Twinkle Toes award for zipping into home on Jes' double in the fifth. Juan gets a Sneaky Feet award for not getting thrown out coming around second in the second.

Our next game is MONDAY, July 25. We'll be the visiting team against the L.A. Equis of Pasadena (we played them a couple of weeks ago; go review the replay) on field H7 (sewer). I know we'll be missing Douglas and Andrew. Everyone should make sure I know if you're coming or not. Standard reminder will come out tomorrow; supplemental reminder will come out on Monday. ScottM should reappear, and Uncle Marty will likely be in attendance, too.

p.s. we have two more games on the current schedule, but don't forget we'll have four "Pick'em" games coming up after that. I've requested games with the Crawdads, Wild Turkeys and Fringes (altho' I haven't heard back from Fringe management yet). Who else do we want to play?
