Ouch.
That jinx of Douglas' from last week seems to have held itself over to this week's game (not enough spinning and spitting, perhaps?), with the meltdown taking place over the first two innings (diarrhea of the throwing arms notwithstanding) and all Bruisers getting bruised on one way or another. We really needed more of our men to show up because their men turned out to be really good hitters this year. At least we ended out of the double mercy (gotta find that silver lining somewhere, don't we? ;)). There were an awful lot of question marks on the scoresheet, esp. in the third inning where only one hit and one out were actually recorded in the squares, but let's see what we have in the way of highlights...
The game began well with a nice KarenC(P)-Ron(1B) out and a good catch by EricG(3B), and in the second inning Nancy(P) made a good 2-handed catch, with many Frawg runs being scored in between. After that, firmly entrenched in mercy, we never really needed to get more than two outs an inning. In the third inning Ellie(2B) made an excellent throw to Ron(1B), and there's a notation that reads "EricG pop" which sounds like he caught something good. The fourth inning was the "All Redding" inning with Jesse(LF) catching a shallow fly ball and Ellie (2B) calmly snagging a line drive -- we have a great farm system! The Frawgs tried their best to pick on Jesse by hitting balls waaay over his head, but in the fifth inning Jesse(LF) made a great running catch, and then EricB(SS) made a good snag at short. The sixth inning's "real" out was a nice grab and throw by EricG(3B) to Pat(1B), and the seventh inning's out was Karen(P) to Ron (1B) after three runners got on base. Jesse did ! a good job retrieving a ball that got caught in a tree (don't worry, Dave & MB, he didn't climb it).
Offensively, we had one of our quietest games ever. We had no home runs tonight, but we did get a triple by BobG. RBIs were scored by BobG, Ellie and Pat. Ellie gets kudos for great hustle beating the throw to first in the first inning. Pat saved us from ending the game in double mercy when she batted in BobG (who also earns the evening's Twinkle Toes award for beating the ball to second base) in the seventh inning. (BTW, who wrote "SUA" in the scorebook, and what does that mean?". If you're keeping score, please use the normal scoring icons and such so those of us writing the replays understand what happened, 'cuz I have no idea what that "SUA" means!).
Our next game is MONDAY, July 24. We'll be the home team against the Titans. If you haven't already responded to the game reminder from earlier today, please do so asap.
Have a great weekend!
Karen :)
