Forty years ago, something that had been thought impossible was accomplished -- man walking on the Moon. On the anniversary of that event, something else happened that was previously thought impossible - KarenC hit a home run! A real home run. One that bounced all the way to the other field, unaided by fielder errors (or at least, that's what Ann says). Yeah. It was a beaut. But y'know what? We need to start keeping oxygen in the Bruiser's first aid bag. :) For whatever it's worth, that seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game, as the Bruisers kept the game well in hand for another victory.
Defensively, here's how the outs came: In the first inning, Rob(3B) put up his glove and the line drive went right into it, then Jose(SS) caught a fly ball, then Ron(1B) caught a fly ball. In the second inning, Jeff(3B) scooped up a grounder and got it to Ron(1B), then the Tigers had a phantom woman out, then Gerardo(LF) caught a fly ball. In the third, Rob(3B) got a grounder to Shane(1B), the Tigers had another phantom woman out, then Nancy(P) fielded a dribbler and threw it to Shane(1B). In the fourth, Ron(1B) caught a pop fly, then he caught throws from Nancy(P) and Jose(SS) for the next two outs. In the fifth inning, the Tigers started with a phantom woman out, then Gerardo(LF) caught a fly ball, and then Jose(SS) got a grounder over to Nora(2B) for a force out.
Offensively, the heat didn't keep us down at all, as everyone got at least one hit, and all but one runner scored. We got home runs by KarenC, Jose, and Shane, triples by Gerardo and Paul, and tree doubles by Randy, ScottE, and Nora. RBIs were earned by KarenC, Randy, Jose (4), Gerardo (3), Ann, Ron, Shane (3), Liza, Jeff, ScottE, Nora (2), and Paul (2). Sneaky Feet Awards go to Nora and Paul for Nora sneaking into third on Paul's single which he Sneaky Feeted into a double in the second inning. Jose gets the Politeness Award for pausing to apologize for bumping into the Tiger first basewoman who had wandered into his running path (she was looking at the ball, not the runner bearing down upon her) when he hit his home run.
Our next game is Tuesday July 28, when we'll be the home team against Voodoo TOAD Fury. I know we'll be missing Ron, Ericg, and probably Amy -- everyone else please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
