Bruisers vs. Goat Scouts, July 22, 2003

Bruisers: KarenC, Andrew, Steve, Ann, Britt (Bruisers debut, recruiting points to Steve), Andy, Jes, Eric, Rich, Nancy, JohnD, Juan, Pat, Anders, and ScottE.

Bruiser fans: BobT, and three Pasadena City police officers. Turns out some neighborhood resident (who bought a house next to a park thinking that nobody would ever use it) is evidently not a fan of either the Bruisers, Goat Scouts, or softball in general.

Baja Fresh diners included KarenC, Andrew, ScottE, Andy, JohnD, and Ann, while Nancy, Eric, Juan and Jes partook of liquid dinners...

Defensive dazzlers include Andrew's(3B) mostly-Andrew first inning where he caught a line drive and then whipped the ball over to Pat(1B) to for a double-play, and then tagged the runner coming to third base for the last out of the inning. The second inning highlighted "da Boyz", Juan (LF), Steve(SS) and Britt(CF) who made all the outs 1-2-3. KarenC(2B) caught pop fly balls in the third inning (with TWO hands!) and the fifth inning (okay, with only one hand) which kept us out of mercy.

Offensively, Steve showed some great hustle zipping home behind Andrew in the fourth inning when the Goat catcher missed a throw to home. In the same inning, Eric did his growly thing to try to make the Goat second baseman drop the ball as he ran into second, but she didn't scare as easily as he hoped (apparently that only works for Anders!) Britt was able to leg out a dribbler to reach first safely in the fifth inning, and scored later. Due to the Goats' somewhat questionable (selective?) enforcement of ground rules (illustrated by their not stopping their own runner at second and yelling at him come home when he shouldn't have) and allowing balls to roll into the shrubs so they could call ground rule doubles rather than making true efforts to field them, there were no Bruiser home runs and several denied triples, but RBIs were knocked in by Steve, Ann, Britt, Andy (2), Jes, Eric (2), JohnD, Juan, Anders, and ScottE. The Goats officially lost their "most polite team to ! mercy us" designation, especially after hollering to get the game started when it wasn't even 5:30 yet.

Fortunately, this was our last game at Eaton-Blanche. Our next game is back at our normal home, the Rose Bowl, next Thursday July 31, on field H2 against the Fringes. I believe we'll be missing Marc, Mikael and BobbyJoe. Everyone else should be sure I know if you're coming or not. Those who don't remember/know how to find H2 can look at the map at http://jplrecclubs.caltech.edu/softball/cleague/rosebowl2.gif

See ya next week!
Karen :)
