Quote from the sidelines:
"Are those guys on steroids or something?" (referring to Titans, not Bruisers!)
"Get some cleats!" to ScottE from someone on the bench

It was probably the hottest game of the year (kinda makes you miss that nice breeze down at the Rose Bowl, doesn't it?). Hopefully it will cool off for the rest of the season. Thanks for coming out and hanging in there, everyone! The game started late waiting for more Titan women to show up, but we eventually got going. We held our own pretty well through most of the game, but couldn't hold on to win at the end.
The game's defense started out looking pretty good with a nice running catch by Emmanuell(CF) (his first of several "how did he get there so fast?" catches) and a caught pop-up by KarenC(2B). The second inning featured Ann(2B) combining with Ron(1B) get the batter who taunted her. Nancy(P) made a good snag and throw to Ron(1B) for an out in the third inning, and the fourth had good running catches by Emmanuell (CF) and PaulH(LF). We started the sixth inning tied, KarenC(P) snared a heart stopping grounder and threw to Ron(1B), and then EricG made a good throw to Ron(1B), and then we let four runs score. Sigh.
Hitwise, some of us (okay, one of us) made good use of the "fly ball in trees in right is a triple" ground rule, as BobG came up with three triples. Nobody wanted to try to actually homer to left, it seemed. EricG and Ron get Sneaky Feet awards for getting home on Emmanuell's single, and getting to second before the shortstop gal figured out he was behind her, respectively. RBIs were earned by Ron (2), Nancy (2), BobG (2), EricG (2), Emmanuell, PaulH (2) and KarenT. ScottE gets applause for his good recovery after falling in the dirt coming out of the batters box, and still beating the ball to first base after the third baseman bobbled it.
Our next game is... well, TBD. The schedule for the remaining four games hasn't come out yet, even though I've been bugging the scheduler. I'll let you all know what's up as soon as I find out myself. After we get the schedule, we'll know when the end-of-season party will be! :)
Have a great weekend!
Karen :)
