Well, at
least we didn't end the game in the mercy rule. And we scored more runs
than the Dodgers. Despite the fact that the O Zone started the game with 8
men and 1 woman, and they played with their one woman and only 7 men in the
field and we loaned them a catcher for the first two innings and they could
only have a non
fielding catcher for the rest of the game, and they took
virtual outs each time their missing women came to bat, it was a tough game
all around and they kicked our butts.
This week's "Livin' Up to
The Name" award goes to to Jenny who stopped a ball with her cheekbone in
the fourth inning, and a Purple Heart goes to Kenny who sacrificed leg and
shoulder the hard way in a dramatic collision which sent him airborne at
first base in the 6th inning (but he still got the runner out). *Ann, see
how much we need you? You can't leave for South Carolina until the season
is over... c'mon, it's only four more weeks!*
By the way
Brendan, you should make sure Kenny knows he'd better be 1) at home and 2)
in bed with his ice packs and Ibuprofen when Ann calls to check on
him!
Defensive highlights included an all-by-herself
double-play by Jenny at second base in the first inning, and Karen making
two hard stops (including a combo out with Ann to get a runner at second)
at third base in the fifth inning (disclaimer: Ann and Jenny made me put
this in). Offensively, we had two homers from Scott, and one from Brendan
to vindicate his brother's injury, and triples from Anders and Steve. RBIs
were hit in by Karen, Scott (3), Brendan (2), Kenny, and Anders
(2).
Next game is Tuesday August 3 against the LA Radars on
field H2, and we're the home team. It's Ann's last game, so be sure to
come out to wish her well and give her one last chance to be team doctor
(well, okay, maybe not that last part). I think we're only missing Renaud
who is still scouting players in Europe for another couple of weeks. I
know we're getting into the middle of vacation season, so if you're going
to miss any of our upcoming games please let me know.
See you
Tuesday!
Karen :)
