Yes, an 8-7 game - not very C-leaguish at all! But having the other team place their 9 players in creative positions, now that's C-league! (For some hitters they left 3rd base open to have 4 outfielders)
Defensively, there were no meltdown innings, despite a minor scare in the last inning when the tying run stood on 3rd and the winning run on 1st. But we held on - yay Bruisers! The outs in the first inning were Nancy(P) to Ron(1B), a fly to ScottM in RF, and Jose(SS) to Ron(1B). The second inning again started with Nancy(P) to Ron(1B), then Jose(3B) to Ron(1B), and then EricG unassisted at SS. In the 3rd inning ScottM caught another flyball in RF, then he threw out the next batter who tried to stretch a single into a double, and the third out was Nancy(P) to Earl(1B). The fourth inning featured outs from EricG to Ron and Karen (P) to Ron and ??? (it didn't get recorded). But I think that's the inning where a Procrastinator female got a home run because our guys played her in too close - that, and she was FAST! The 5th inning was all Nancy(P) to Ron(1B). (It was very nice of them to hit me so many easy grounders right up the middle - good thing we weren't on the dirt field o' funny bounces!) And in the 6th, we had Jose(SS) to Karen(2B), Nancy(P) to Ron(1B), and Jose to Ron.
Offensively, it was a pretty quiet night, but we scored JUST enough runs. Why waste energy! Oh wait, we did by leaving on multiple base runners. The innings we scored in featured a home run from EricG, doubles from Gerardo, Rob, and EricW, and a triple from ScottM. Most everyone else got a single or two. RBI's go to Gerardo (2), EricG (2), Rob, ScottM, Jose, and Jes.
Our next game is .... next week. Sometime, against someone. Hopefully not Tuesday, when EricB and Jes and I all can't make it, and I would be looking for a replacement replacement manager (hint hint). Whichever day it is we'll be missing KarenC and ScottM and Nora. Everyone else should look for the game reminder email and be sure I know if you're coming (and playing) or not.
