The temperature was pleasant enough, but the sun was definitely not our friend today, esp. if you were in right field. I do need to revise my previous description of the Radar kidlets being "amuck" at our last game because tonight they were surprisingly "anti-amuck", and seemed to be mostly just sitting around without making any noise at all. We do thank the Radar kids for inviting Rachel to come play with them; she had a fun time with her new friends.

For the first inning, it looked like we would do okay, then we melted down in the second inning and again in the fourth. For all our dancing with mercy, however, we never did give up enough runs to actually be IN mercy. In the first inning, ScottM(CF) made a nice catch, then EarlC(3B) went high to catch a pop up, and then EricB(LF) made a good trotting catch. In the second, EarlC(3B) forgot Ron(1B) wasn't as tall as he when he threw over to first base, but Ron landed in time to get the runner out, ScottM(CF) made a good 2-handed catch for the second out, and then Ron(1B) made an unassisted out. In the third inning EricG(SS) caught a hard line drive for the first out, then did it again for the scond; and then Ron(1B) made a nice catch of a high popup despite the people yelling his name. In the fourth inning, it's apparent that whoever was sitting out didn't pay attention or take notes, because the only out recorded was KarenC's(3B) "full bodied" catch -- an out so specta! cular in it's style and precision that nobody remembers how the other two outs happened . [Seriously - if you're on the bench, you need to be taking notes, please.] In the fifth inning, Ron(1B) made a good unassisted out, EricG(SS) threw a rocket to Ron(1B), and then Ann(SF) caught a liner. In the sixth inning, EricG(SS) caught two pop ups (one with assist from Amy), and then EarlC(LF) climbed into the stratosphere to catch another tall one.

Defensively, our bats were a bit on the silent side again. Many thanks to Amy and Nancy who did a lot of extra running for Pat and Ann. We had no home runs or triples, but Ron went 4-for-4. RBIS were earned by EricG, Ron (3), EricB (2), EarlC, ScottE, and Ann. Ann gets kudos for making it to first base after standing at home plate and watching her hit go out into left center field before realizing that she didn't have a runner after all. EricG gets a Sneaky Fingers award for diving back to third base after getting caught between third and home in the second inning.

Our next game is next Tuesday, August 7 against the Crawdads. We'll be the visiting team on field HS (grass). Please make sure to tell me if you'll be there or not.

See you next week!

Karen :)
