ScottM probably described it best as "a genuine turkey shoot", as we double-mercied the Turkeys twice during the game (a rare, and thus noteworthy, occurrence). It was pretty refreshing to play a team that showed up with as many players as we did, well ahead of the 5:30 scheduled game start. Yaay for Sam! :) The Wild Turkeys will also be back to play us in a rematch during one of the Pick Your Own Opponents games later this month.
Defensively, the first inning went very quickly with a Rob(3B) Bob(1B) high lob over Nancy's(P) head, a very calm Nancy(P) Bob(1B) play, and a nice catch by Ann(SF - she's baaack!; okay except for running). In the second inning, Steve(OF) caught a fly ball for an out, and then made an excellent throw all the way to KarenC(P) along the third base line to keep the runner on third from going home. Rob(3B) made a good tag of the runner to close the third inning. In the fourth inning, Steve(OF) made a great running catch just outside the left field foul line, and Lyna(2B) made a good play to Ron(1B) for the third out. The "what happened there?" award goes to the fifth inning play where the ball went from Steve(3B) to Bob(SS) to Jes(2B) to Ron(1B) for an almost double-play (it should be noted that Bob was about a step away from Jessica AND second base at the time!). Later, Jes made a good snare of a line drive to end that inning. The game-ending out ended up being made by t! he Turkeys manager himself when Sam was hit by the batted ball on his way to second base.
Offensively, it was a rather interesting evening... In an at-bat that left him kicking himself in the fourth inning, Steve was credited with a single as well as a double-play when the fielder made a fielders choice out to get Jes, and ScottM scored to reach invoke the third (double-mercy) out in the fourth inning. Fabian gets the "hey, dude, sharpen your cleats!" award for his awesome baserunning when he got pickled between first and second, slipping twice, and evading the herd of Turkeys to get onto (and back to) second base safelyin the sixth inning. We would need a videotape replay to get the order of fielders who tried to tag him out. Nancy went down in the top of the fifth inning when she pulled a muscle trying to not mow down the Turkeys first baseman who was running toward her trying to field Nancy's dribbler (shades of Ron-Eric without the big collision!), and then Andy went down in the bottom of the sixth with a pulled muscle. Singles and doubles were plentiful ! tonight, with almost everyone getting at least one hit and bringing a run home. Home runs were hit by Steve and Eric, and Fabian had a triple. RBIs were scored by KarenC, ScottM, Jes, Steve (4), Harold, Andy, Rob (3), Ann (2), Eric (4), Fabian, and Lyna.
Our season record is currently 8-5-1. (I had to look that up, because like ScottM said last night "You guys have so many wins you can't even keep track!" heeheehee!)
Next week's game is Monday August 9 against the Homers on field H7 (corner). We'll be the home team. So far, I know we'll be missing Jessica, Ron, and the Reddings, and ScottM will be the enemy (having scouted us for the last couple of weeks for the Homers). Everyone else please be sure I know if you're coming or not.
Have a great week everybody!
Karen :)
