Wow. What a frustrating game. It's hard to get hits when you don't get decent pitches. All the reports about the Dawgs' horrible pitching were true. One pitcher stood so far back she was practically in Glendale, and the other pitched almost from her knees. We could have played more innings if the pitching had been better, but as it was, it was already 7:15 p.m. when we finished the 4th inning. There are those who believe that the game should be a Dawgs forfeit because the manager didn't supply good (i.e. legal; proper pitch distance AND height together in the same pitch) pitching as required by League rules, but since there's no real mechanism to enforce this (short of calling off the game in the middle), we can only take the moral victory. Hopefully before the next time we have to play the Dawgs they'll get some pitching lessons.

Defensive highlights... EricG(SS) and KarenC(2B) made a nice play in the first inning to cut down a Dawg runner at second base. Jes(2B) made a nice catch in the third inning for the last out of that inning, and a nice running catch by Mandell(LF) did the same in the fourth. ScottM made a good (two-handed) catch while base coaching during Juan's at-bat in the fourth inning, too (okay, maybe not a defensive highlight, but certainly at least a catch made in self-defense!). In the second inning Ann(2B) fielded a ball, and made a good throw to EricB(C) who chased the runner coming in from third back to the base, while Juan and ScottM ran in from left field and right field, respectively, to cover. EricG made his pitching debut in the fourth inning, giving up only one run.

Offensive highlights are few tonight, having only gotten through the batting order 1.5 times due to the pitching situation. Randy earned Sneaky Feet twice: first in the first inning to get home after KarenC got tagged out at home and confused everyone into not paying attention to the runner behind her, then in the fourth inning beating the throw home on ScottM's double. In the fourth inning EricG made a soft landing for the Dawgs second basewoman when he dove headfirst back to second base and she fell backwards on top of him. No home runs or triples tonight. RBIs were earned by ScottM (3), DaveS (2), EricG (2) Rob (2), and Juan.

Our next game is next Tuesday, August 9, against the Crawdads. We'll be the home team on field H9. I believe we're only missing the Reddings; everyone else be sure I know if you're coming or not.

Have a good week!

Karen :)
