August 3 vs. L.A. Radars

Bruisers: KarenC, Scott, Anders, Jenny, JohnK, Andrew, Shonte (Bruiser debut), Tony (Bruiser debut), Dave, Ann, Mikael, Kent, Kathy, Marc, Steve, KarenT, Mary Beth and John D. And, loaned to the LA Radars because they started the game with only six people, Andy, Brendan, and Nancy. Recruiting points go to Andy for bringing us Shonte, and to Shonte for bringing us Tony.... welcome to the Bruisers, and come out and play with us any time!

Spectators: Emily, Max, Rebecca, Kenny, Jes, Cassie, Ellie, Jesse, Simon, and Randy.

Without looking back on previous Bruiser reports, I'd venture to say that tonight we had the most Bruisers for any game, ever, with a total of 21 Bruisers who came to play, plus two on the DL, plus seven kids. While other teams are struggling with summer vacation absences, we could have played ourselves with some to spare as scorekeepers and kid watchers. Ahhhh... would that some of the other teams could boast the same thing!

Diners at Crown City Brewery for Ann's farewell dinner and yummy cake: Andy, Jill, KarenC, Scott, JohnD, Rebecca, Ann, JohnK, Brendan, Kenny, KarenT, Anders, Nancy, Jes, Marc, Kathy, and Kent.

Box Score: 1 2 3 4 5 Total
LA Radars 10 1 6 0 0 17
Bruisers 1 6 4 4 0 15
This game is our first forfeit win of the season.

Despite that reallyreallyreallyreally ugly first inning, we did pretty well catching up. We had home runs from Dave and Steve, and triples from Scott and Steve. RBIs were knocked in by Scott, Anders (2), Shonte, Tony, Dave (5), Ann, Kent, Kathy, Steve, and JohnD. Defensive dazzlers include an all-Marc 4th inning where he made all the outs with an unassisted plus two throws from JohnK, and a nice basket catch by Scott in left field. Play-of-the-Day goes to Shonte who caught an amazingly long hit to right field by temporary-Radar Brendan, then threw it in to JohnD to get the runner coming back to first.

Meanwhile, for the Radars, Nancy, Brendan and Andy all got hits, Nancy made a play to get an out at first base, and Andy had a great day pitching up a storm and making several outs, including one off of his own daughter. Amazing Play for the Radars, however has to go the Radar kid who caught Mary Beth's grounder then threw to first to get her out.

Again, we have to give a "Living Up To The Name" award (Bruised, but not Bleeding Category), this time to Ann who wisely opted to take a ball to the shin rather than cleats to her face in the second inning. This wasn't really the kind of going away present we wanted her to have -- that gift was the ball with our signatures.

Next game is Wednesday August 11 against the Wild Turkeys on field H3 (corner/sewer field) I think we'll be missing Renaud, Jes, Kathy, JohnK, and possibly KarenT. Everyone please be sure I know if you'll be at the game or not.

See you next Wednesday!

Karen ;)
