It was another odd game. Mainly because we
played according to the Sam League version of the mercy rule instead of
normal C League rules. Philosophically speaking, perhaps some day Sam will
realize that the more he talks the less people listen, esp. when he's
making up new rules as the game goes on. But then again, since he's been
trying to change the way the mercy rule works for years, perhaps not. Ah
well. At any rate, we knew it was going to be a rough game when we were
mercied before we even had our first ups. After languishing in that weird,
ever-changing mercy fog for four innings, we finally broke out of it enough
to give the Turkeys their genuine three outs per inning for the rest of the
game.
The weather was nice, the camaraderie around the Bruiser
blankets was good, and we did try hard. Defensively, we were about 50-50,
with really a cool play being made by Bob-Marc, a great snag by Andy at
pitcher, and an awesome snag of a fly ball by Brendan. I won't mention who
dropped the fly ball or let one go into the street, or which Bruiser was
actually booed (by Bruisers, no less) for being first base boy scout... :)
Offensive magic consisted of home runs by Andrew and Bob, and a triple that
could have been a homer by JohnD. RBIs were hit by Andrew (4), Bob (3),
and Rhiannon. Blooper reel points must go to Wild Turkey Sam Dolinar for
his imitation of Jose Canseco when he chased a foul ball and ended up
bouncing it off his head.
Our next game is on Tuesday August 18
against the LA Radars on field H2. Please let me know if you'll make that
game or not. I think so far we're only missing JohnD. We have a bye next
week (NO game with the Grounders on Monday 8/10). Yes, I'll remind you
that we have no game.
See you on the 18th!
Karen
